Tonight in DC, in freezing weather, hundreds of people came together to remember and mourn Alex Pretti.
One of Pretti’s fellow VA nurses from Minnesota spoke at the vigil. He shared a lesson from nursing we all need right now:
“Nurses are shift workers,” he said. “We always aim to leave our relief shift set up for success, to carry on the sacred work of care in the best way possible.” His voice cracked.
“Alex is now relieved. That means now it’s up to us to carry the work forward.”
