Lord Adaar Day 1
Varaad Adaar is a big ol’ softie—merciful and overly sincere with everything he does. He trusts too much and way too easily, and he comes off very naive for being thirty-four, but he’d rather go through life believing in people. He hates to kill but is so good at it that it causes dissonance because sometimes it feels like it’s the only part of himself worth being proud of.
He was raised by his dad—tal-vashoth, a tailor under the qun—though it was never clear to Varaad if he was the sire or just a friend his father knew wanted out. His father was a skilled warrior, but greedy and had already begun to sell his sword before he became pregnant with Varaad. It wasn’t a difficult decision for him to leave entirely, and Varaad’s dad had come with—a good thing too since his dad never would’ve survived leaving with his skill set. Varaad was born somewhere south of Antiva in the company of the mercs his father had joined in the meantime, and shortly after his father had left, deciding a child wasn't in the life he’d wanted to live. Varaad didn’t mind so much—his dad was amazing and he’d found many parents in the merc company he’d been born into.
In his early twenties his dad had settled in the alienage of a town in the free marches—he’d learned to fight when Varaad had, but that life wasn't for him. It didn’t feel like the life for Varaad either, but he knew nothing else but fighting and the naive dreams he held of being a prince, changing the world, like in the human courtly intrigue stories he loved reading. He joined the Valo-kas at twenty-five, and though he hated killing and fighting, he found a place for himself among the tal-vashoth and vashoth.
He’d actually volunteered to be one of the Valo-kas to go to the conclave. Seeing a human peace talk? That sounded exciting, and bodyguard work was one of the easier ones for Varaad. It seemed like a no-brainer, but then he hadn’t expected Corypheus. He’d been thrown headfirst into actually being the change he dreamed of, and though it overwhelmed him, he was determined to do his best.
