RAMBLE ABOUT SOMETHING—ANYTHING—YOU LOVE/WANT TO RAMBLE ABOUT (EVEN IF I MAY NOT ENTIRELY UNDERSTAND, I LIKE HEARING PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT MAKE THEM HAPPY—)
You want me to ramble huh? Well then sit back and let me talk about how much I love this asshole right here.
It’s a no brainer to all my followers that I love the Storm King. I haven’t exactly shut up about him lately. I’ve seen him get a seriously negative reception within the pony fandom as a whole because it appears most fans are calling him boring, weak, and an idiot.
Honey, let me tell you why that’s bullshit.
First of all, lets kill the idea that just because a villain is silly it automatically means that they are actually stupid. While this is common trope it is not always fact.
The Storm King is quirky, but he HAS intelligence. He wouldn’t have been able to conquer dozens upon dozens of lands over the span of several years without being both powerful and cunning. Do people think the Storm Creatures themselves were doing all the work and planning the pillaging and destruction of these places? Because it certainly wasn’t Tempest since she wasn’t around yet.And let’s not forget, SHE works for HIM not the other way around. Now for the record, yes I DO find him quite hilarious because how can I not when he does the kind of thing like in the above gif when mocking the magic of “friendship, and flowers, and ponies” or when he plays with his newfound powers to control the sun and moon in the film? I die laughing every time I watch that scene.Let’s not forget him thinking about throwing a pizza party or a funny hat day for his soldiers to show his appreciation for them.
But it takes brains to command an army. It takes brains to manipulate others into doing what you want or need them to in order to progress in your goals. I feel like anyone who genuinely believes that Storm is an idiot hasn’t paid attention to his character as a whole. Or they acknowledge that he’s smart but hate him on the principle that he manipulated and betrayed Tempest.
Honestly though I find that small scene utterly delicious. It was done juuust right and GOD LOOK AT THAT LIGHTING.On a side note, let’s also not forget that he is STRONG AF and can punch through a stone wall like it’s no one’s business.
A villain does not need to have a tragic backstory to be engaging. A villain does not need to be overly complex to be fun or enjoyable. There are plenty of Disney villains out there who aren’t super complex characters with upsetting tragic backstories that people love and adore. It’s not his fault that he wasn’t given the same bit of attention as Tempest or even Capper, Celaeno, and Princess Skystar. However it is very unfair to him since it seems many people will take a character like him just at face value and not give him the amount of attention they would the others.TL;DR: The Storm King is a perfectly fine villain character that is ignored and treated unfairly and y'all need to fix it. If no one else will then I’ll take it upon myself to be the face of change.
