the elder half of my system seems really hung up on the idea that once people have a set idea of who you are, you can't move past it, and you can't develop yourself further or even leave what you were behind to become someone else. that half's pretty jaded from mistreatment and time.

maybe i'm younger (formation-wise) and more naive, but it feels almost stupid to believe that. the self is kind of always in flux, right? nobody is truly one way forever, and everyone continues to grow. it feels like they're stunting their growth on purpose for reasons that i can't really seem to understand. i'm not sure how to go about convincing them that there is, in fact, still time, and that change still can be made.
