Varos is the blorbo where I thought of how to work with a type of Durge that never wanted any of this to begin with. Never wanted to embrace the Urge, never wanted to be in the Cult of Bhaal, and sure as fuck never wanted to be a Child of Bhaal, yet still landed there because Father dearest insisted.

It later also mixed in with the question of "What is the purpose of the Durge?"

Mind you I've never played the first two games, but from the things I've read up on, and the general understanding I got of it all, the first many many many Bhaalspawn were born after a prophecy of Bhaal dying, and created with the purpose of bringing Bhaal back through them sometime after his death.

The Dark Urge, however, does not have that purpose. Sure, there's the standard purpose of murder and carnage, but aside from that there's no divine purpose. I doubt Durge was created with the intend of making the Absolute -entertainment for Bhaal, definitely, but to a redeemed Durge he also remarks he'll just start over when Durge won't accept being his chosen before their ass.

So my conclusion, at least for my child I like to use as a punching bag, is the Durge is just Bhaal's plaything. A mortal being you can downright torment with your will if they don't play along as you want? Raw entertainment. Of course, if it gets old, can always just create a new one that may be more pliable.

Enter Varos. Dropped off somewhere random for random people to raise him... As he grows and the Urge starts to manifest, it is realized he is not willing and does everything to fight it. Come almost adulthood, it takes sending the cult to get his ass and forcefully drag him off and have him be stuck in the midst of only Bhaalists before he essentially... gives up. It is really fucking difficult to fight the Dark Urge when you're surrounded by Bhaalists that egg it on, a butler that know how to press your buttons, no help, and Father dearest refuse to let you die, because he ain't done with you just yet.

The whole plan of the Absolute was far more a completely unhinged and desperate attempt to end it, than because wanting to destroy the world.

"Either the right people figure out what's going on and step up to stop my once and for all... Or I end the world and Father will finally let me have peace."

I was doing some research for a thing I’m writing (the first OS for Pages). Merely, I was looking for the name of a SWU fruit because, you know, I wanted to keep things real and canon.

Ranor, who’s evidently just as drunk as him: Sure kid, sounds great. Real threatening. Bottoms up!
