10 Things I Love About WCSA
One of the greatest things about universities is their student organizations. Student organizations are an incredible way to tap into the pulse of what happens on campus and there is an outstanding variety of organizations at the University of Toronto. One such organization is our very own Woodsworth College Student Association, a group that develops programs and events tailored to enhancing student life within our college.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Novera Khan, the president of WCSA and she shared with me 10 incredible things about the student organization.
1. WCSA has full student body representation
There are portfolios and representation for full-time, part-time and mature students as well as those involved with the Academic Bridging Program.
2. WCSA offers support for student ideas
If you are a Woodsworth student with an idea or vision that you think would benefit your college community, you can submit an application for the Individual Initiatives Grant which would provide funding for you to manifest your great idea.
3. With WCSA, you can form a funded club for just about anything
Do you have a club idea that you haven’t seen yet around our college? You can form a club under WCSA and obtain the funding and the space necessary to make your club meetings happen. Click here for more information!
4. WCSA has many opportunities for student involvement beyond elected roles
While 25 of WCSA’s key executive roles involve elections, there are 7 committees with spaces that are open to every student in Woodsworth who would like to be more active in the life of the college.
WCSA gives out free pancakes every Wednesday in Kruger Hall between the hours of 10am-12pm. Stop by for some great food and better company!
6. WCSA rents out lockers and provides access to printing
It is important to note that these services are provided at the cheapest cost on the entire St. George campus. Click here for more information!
7. WCSA operates a recently renovated commuters lounge
This lounge is a wonderful space for students to rejuvenate on campus, complete with ping pong tables and a fully functioning microwave.
8. WCSA operates an Intramural Sports Program
9. WCSA holds monthly board meetings that are open to all Woodsworth students
Accountability and transparency are key tenets of WCSA’s culture and as such all Woodsworth students are able to attend monthly board meetings where policy, programs and finances are discussed. It is also worth noting that these meetings also feature a selection of free foods from local shops.
10. WCSA executives and directors serve on a voluntary basis
While some student organizations feature paid positions, at WCSA all funds received go into enhancing the student experience on campus and those serving in elected roles receive no monetary compensation for their services.
