Only her second day home from the hospital and Kat already know that she was in for a long month. Bed rest. Well that much had been obvious but the amount of pain she was still in made it hard to sleep, though she was constantly being told that she needed to in order to let her body heel. They’d literally taken a part of her and the brunette had never felt so violated, so hurt, and she was pissed. Pissed at the people and pissed that she couldn’t do anything. Hearing a sound at the door she looked up only barely to see someone just standing there. “You can come in. My bark is worse than my bite right now.”

"– and she told me she needed five stitches after she “accidentally” stabbed herself with the bread knife. A bread knife. So I said, come on– you gotta get better with your bullshit. At least be more realistic, you know?” Griffin shook his head as a short, crude snort left him. 

“Anyways, ‘nough about me. What’s got you in with this?”

"Why on earth are you still talking? Did I not tell you on the way here to shut it?” A lover of silence, Marie could feel the beginnings of a headache forming as she was forced to endure the never-ending yammering of her companion. In the nearly eight years that she’s been with the Vasile, she could never understand why some of them insisted on running their mouths excessively. She supposed she was moderately fond of them all, but dear lord, could they be downright infuriating at times. “How ‘bout this: if you don’t stop talking, I will tape your mouth shut and I’m not even joking. I literally carry a roll of duck tape in my bag - so don’t tempt me.”

Location: Vasile manor, kitchen

Igor could smell the beets cooking and the aroma was magnificent. He remembered the process making borscht with his grandmother and missed those times. Every two weeks his mom and dad would venture a little outside of the city of Moscow to visit his grandparents. When they would meet up he was greeted towards the smell of  syriniki and the smiles his grandmother would give him. She’d ask him to come into the kitchen to help prepare the borscht and he’d learn how to make it properly. After he had went out with Veronica and spoken to her about Russia Day he wanted to make something that reminded him over home. 

He reached into the fridge to pull out some meat and started cutting it up in pieces, to later, boil with the soup. The process was long, as usual with most Russian cuisine, however it was a process he thoroughly enjoyed. He had his laptop set on the counter so he could play some of his favorite Russian rappers as he prepared the food. Once everything was readied he reached for a shot glass and poured himself some vodka. 

He started to send an e-mail to his mother when he could sense someone was approaching.

Igor looked up and gave a soft smile. “I’m going to make borscht if you want some? In a bit I’m going to chop some potatoes.”

She hadn’t slept in over 48 hours and there was a part of Katerina that knew it was starting to show. Her feeling about Leo had been right and after a long night at the hospital she’d kept up her end of the bargain with Lev and come home first thing in the morning, an agreement set with the nurses to call her if anything changed, no matter how small. Kit, you’re Obshchak. Three words in a text message but just enough to remind her of her position now, especially with her older brother out of town. She was in charge. She had to be the head even if it was only for a week, as much as Kat would have preferred to spend every waking moment at the hospital.

No one outside of the immediate family had been told about Leo though the orders were strict. No one bearing Vasile outside of herself or Ana to go into that room, no one to draw attention to her twin being in there. And no one without the name Vasile to know anything was going on unless they were told by Katerina herself. Trudging into the kitchen she was relieved to see it was empty, leaning against one of the benches for just a moment, enough to steady herself. Did she wanted to go upstairs and sleep for a few hours? The thought pushed out of her head when she heard her name and Kat breathed in deeply, putting a smile on her face as she turned and asked “How can I help?”

The weekdays were all starting to blur into one for her, Katerina being busier than she had ever thought she could be. Leaving the manor before 5 every morning, finding herself thrown into so much work that she didn’t leave the radio station or even the news station until 6 at night and then coming home to whatever was going on there. It was exhausting but copious amounts of caffeine and sugar had her coping. A Saturday gave her a chance to slow down and yet she still found herself up early, a morning run complete and now with the door wide open she sat at her vanity halfway through her makeup routine when she spoke up, “I can see you hovering there, the mirror is big enough.” Her focus going back to the eyeliner she was currently drawing on, “The door is open, you can come in. What do you want?”

“No no no, you’re not hearing me. I am really not going to do that. Even I have my lines.” The conversation Katerina was having clearly heated, the blonde just lucky in that moment that the person on the other end of the line couldn’t see just how annoyed her face was. Her producer on the other end and she was on, playing nice the way she always had to. Smiling slightly when she saw the other person she waved slightly, opening the fridge and looking for something. “Because I said no, Madeleine. Look, I have to go, I don’t want to argue this anymore.” Hanging up the phone she threw it onto the counter, watching it slide away from her. Pulling out a bottle of water she turned back to the companion in the kitchen. “Hey.”
