ooo the Fool and the World??
ahh thank you mouse :) <3 !!
Where did Rook's journey begin? What were they doing before joining the Veilguard?
Cracks my knuckles evilly⦠Mikal is honestly one of my favorites sfgds and she has the big indulgent backstory⦠she grew up in the free marches, became a friend of red jenny at the end of the āold guardā (when the jennies were a little bloodier and grimmer), fucked over the merchantsā guild, fucked over the coterie, lived to tell the tale⦠became the inquisitionās enchantment expert. she and dagna have dissenting opinions on the fade and love each other for itā¦she and varric do not get along but he really respects her so she ended up called in for the solas hunt (mostly by tessa and charterās doing, they both thought sheād be a great help, and she does like them both.) i think she was on tessa and vaeaās team and saw the others infrequently before she was moved over in the last year to helping lace and varric; she and lace got along fairly well in the inquisition and worked together great.. she and varric clashed a lot as usual, especially since heād begun to get more sentimental about solas... I think a hunt of ten years wore on him a lot.
Vasiliki was an old watcher; well known as a bit of a troublemaker for years before she got put on leave for antagonizing the nobility (again)⦠she grew up in Cumberland alienage i believe, if i have my cities right, and worked on a fishing trawler before she became an apprentice at the necropolis. sheās always prodded at a few of the traditions of the Necropolis - the organization of labor, for one- so she wasnāt at all surprised when Myrna told her to take a vacation, though it was a blow as the necropolis is her home the wisps and spirits are her family and neighbors... i think varric and lace persuaded her to join them by promising her plenty of fade weirdness
What does happily-ever-after look like for Rook? Is it attainable, or just wishful thinking?
theyāre both very pragmatic women, they live in the present, mikalās big pie in the sky dream is to see the thaigs of Rivain but besides that they both roll with the punches so to speak.. not much wishful thinking for either of them..
Mikal is pleased to live day by day.. she wants to see her family as much as she can before she dies, explore the world and see new artistry and craftsmanship, read widely as she can, create whatever burns in her mind and soul⦠she romanced bellara so i think they visit belās clan and mikalās family together :) mikalās family has a tradition of engraving a stone to honor those who have passed, and mikal does one for cyrian as a gift to bel. I think theyād be happy to explore and travel together, no matter where they end up living mikal will be a friend of red jenny and bel will be a scholar of dalish magic, and sheāll have mikal read her drafts, and mikal will show her the plans for her designs, and theyāll collaborate on enchantments and so on and so forth⦠:) clan lutare and the glavonaks celebrating together. i think it would be great
vasiliki would be pleased just to sit by the sea and have a nice meal with someone she likes. I think if she and neve decide to make it work, theyād want to go long distance and visit a few times a year or vasiliki would consider moving to minrathous⦠she might do so.. her faith in the watch is deeply rattled by johanna.. sheād be a great shadow dragon all things considered, she enjoyed the work while the dragons were scattered post-dragon attack and she and neve balance each other really well ⦠if she hadnāt romanced neve i think sheād move to Rivain, learn more about spirits⦠not sure what sheād do for a living though⦠sheās honed herself as a mourn watcher and itās a particular set of skills
I did briefly lament that she should have been a decade younger and romanced davrin⦠she would have relished the challenge of training griffons & thumbing her nose at warden politics as the order changes⦠she and dav have a fantastic and very fun dynamic. ah well </3
Read me in the eloquence of my eyes. In the secret stories. That's where I'll be.

A first meeting between the slitheriest of friends
I hope it's good uwu
Word had spread around rather quickly. From finalist to finalist, from slasher to slasher.
Word was that there were two new additions to the domains ruled by the Eldricths. A new slasher and a new finalist. Word was, the finalist was a rather tough one to go against because of a so-called feline power she had, whatever that meant. Meanwhile, word about the new slasher was thatā¦she was quiteā¦tame.
āI heard she lashed out at one of the finalists that decided to pay her a visit. Basically got dared to play Boogeyman.ā
āLashed out?ā Apophis glanced over at his companion, watching as she bit into the powdery pastry provided by her own absent companion.
āDuncan told me. He heard from the finalists that there was at least a bitch slap to one and even something with a staff.ā
āA staff?ā
āYeah, like a whole gold rod or something. I heard she saw someone swimming in her first trial. Spears them with one shot like a damn slinger.ā
āHuh.ā Apophis merely spoke. āSo she doesnāt want anybody talking to her?ā
āNot a soul.ā
āHuh.ā he repeated. āClearly, I have to talk to her then.ā
āW, what?ā Leilah abruptly turned to face the man. āHave you not understood a single word I said in the last ten minutes?ā
āI understood.ā Apophis flashed a toothy grin that was followed by the sound of a deep chuckle. āI just, feel compelled to talk to his mysterious new killer. Thereās clearly something hidden within that makes them this interesting to whisper about.ā
Leilah offered nothing more but a squint, debating whether the man before was out of his mind orā¦well, she in fact had no idea what to think at this point. Sure it was fantastic knowing all there was to know about the co-workers they were working with, yet something told her that it was best to leave this new one alone.
āYour funeral.ā
Mystery or not, the newest slasher had something that piqued Apophisā interest.
After the first trial Apophis had caughtā¦a glimpse of this new slasher.
An attire from a time resembling his own. A body slumped, practically dragging itself in shame almost. A mask concealing a face of anguish he somehow recognized. Milky, marbled, gleaming eyes that looked from behind the mask that somehow, someway noticed him and darted his way in an instant.
It was an almost electric feeling. Like they had recognized each other at that moment.
He just had to speak to her.
_____________
A land from the ancient times of Greece. A time of war between Sparta and Greece that continued on for years, even throughout too many plagues that fell upon Greece.
Infected corpses lay scattered around, remnants of the events.
The air was humid, reeking of blood and swear, and the fires that still burned in Apophisā line of sight. Reeking of the pain and sorrow endured by all who had to live through these wars and illness.
A crack echoed through the empty streets beneath Apophisā shoe, prompting him to stop walking before lowering his gaze to look at the stone ground.
He had stepped on an arrow that had now shattered, weak from constant use of slaughtering if not defending. His eyes found pieces of broken stones and weapons, all littered with blood. A blood that had become a trail that Apophisā eyes followed to a nearby building. A temple of some sort.
Apophis blinked at the sight of the dismantled structure that called to him, soon turning on his heel before making his way towards the grand steps that lead into the vast opening leading inside. He was soon embraced by a darkness in what was no doubt a spacious area, due to the way his shoes echoed with every step. It wasnāt until after walking a few yards did Apophis seem to notice a distant light, faint but somehow bright as others also appeared in his vision. Considering the scent that contradicted the humidity and stench from before, Apophis knew they were candles. Many of them.
The candles were scattered around the building, illuminating walls and the ground as best as they could in what made Apophis think of a cave. Some candles stood on top of if not beside pieces of cloth that were almost mats. These were in no way empty but instead occupied by those who passed on them. All kinds of items lay around the mats, Apophis could tell they were some sort of medical supplies that could no longer be of use.
Ignoring these things, Apophis continued on his way until he started to make out shapes in the distance. Statues. Columns. More mats. Candles. A person.
Apohisā eyes watched as the figure was stationed beneath the enormous statue before them, hunched over as their back faced his direction. Naturally, Apophis took his hands out of his pocket before removing the hood that concealed his head of ripped snakes.
āThought youād be in here.ā
The figure gave no reaction but a slight turn of her head to Apophisā sudden words, almost as if she had already known he was there for a while.
āI saw you after your first trial, I could tell you were from a time from the past. My past at least.ā he continued on with the conversation as he confidently took a few strides forwards. āSo exactly what year are you from? I can tell this is Athens and all but it doesnāt look too pretty.ā
He received no response.
āI know my history, it must be theā¦Peloponisian war?ā Apophis tapped at his chin after giving a shrug to the silence. āIām from a time after that. Iām not too sure on the exact year and all, Iāve been in this life for quite the thou-, hundred years. Itās been hundreds of years for me. So like I said, I can tell where youāre from. Itās exciting seeing somebody from a time like mine. I mean, I guess everybody is from my time when Iāve lived for so long and seen so much.ā
He slightly tilted his head as he awaited a response from the woman, watching as she merely shifted her hands that she lay on her lap. The man blinked for a moment, soon taking a few more steps as he circled around the woman with a radius of a few feet, making sure to not come too close. Apophis could see her front more clearly, a gown that exposed her left breast. It didnāt phase Apophis, it was clear that she did it for some religious or cultural reason.
His eyes trailed over the rest of the body, examining what was rotting, blackened skin that clung onto the bones inside. She was extremely thin to the point of having a highly noticeable ribcage and collarbones that almost seemed to pop out from her skin, bruised by the heavy neck piece worn around her neck.
āThatās an interesting outfit. A sleeve that looks like a wing. A snake armband? That sounds familiar.ā Apophis pointed out as he studied the statue in front of the woman, then looking up at the golden mask that hid the womanās face, seeing nothing but empty voids in the eye holes. āNot much of a talker, huh? Thatās okay, I can talk for the both of us.ā
The man glanced around as he searched for a proper seat, finding nothing more than rubble and mats. The best he found was a large piece of column laying not too far from the woman, so he lifted the back of his coat so as to not sit on it before he took a seat.
āIām Apophis. Like the Egyptian God.ā he properly introduced himself. āMy old man was Egyptian, he apparently loved snakes or something.ā
At the sound of this, Apophis noticed that the womanās head slightly turned his way. He had definitely gotten more of her attention now.
āThe old lady was Greek, as am I. She worked in a temple like this one. Well, this isnāt really a temple I know. I lived in the temple. Well, granted she worked at the temple, we all did.ā Apophis made a slight motion with his hands before giving a shrug. āAnyways, weāre just meeting. Wouldnāt want to bore you with my family business. Iām a Sagittarius by the way. Horse and snake donāt go very well together, but here I am. What are you?ā
Once again, there was no reply from the woman who only moved her head so that she was facing the front once again. Apophis scrunched his face at that reaction, so he cleared his throat before leaning on his knees to look closer.
āIs it true you killed everybody in your first match?ā Apophis grinned as he clasped his hands together. āI heard from Duncan. Heās the messenger between finalists and slashers. Oh yeah, he will approach you.ā
He watched as the woman turned to face him, this time her head was fully in his direction.
āOh thatās not a threat. He goes to everyone. Heās this kid, not really a kid but whatever; heās my friendās kid. I mean, theyāre not related but heās her kid. Whether she knows it or not. Anyways, this kid will definitely come up to you. He means no harm. He might offer doughnuts actually, he goes crazy over them. Do you know what doughnuts are?ā
āAlright, so doughnuts are this dessert. You make them into these circle shapes and poke out a hole from the middle. I mean, sometimes they donāt even have a hole in the middle; sometimes theyāre filled up with a creme or something. And theyāre deep fried and then you put like frosting and sprinkles on top. Or powdered sugar, Leilah likes those. Sometimes they have brown sugar. Thereās a lot of different ones. Anyways, we like to call this kid Duncan Doughnuts. Heāll come up to you at one point. Duncan told us about your match, said he heard from the finalists and even got to see some things.ā Apophis grinned ear to ear, quite amazed at the details that had been shared with him. āI heard how brutal it was. That you got paired up with the Witch.ā
The woman stared at him silently and even though her maskās eye holes were completely dark, Apophis could identify a sort of shame in her eyes that seemed to dart away with a bit of her head.
āSheās pretty cool, and can be a bit intense. Pretty tall woman; youāre both tall. I mean, she hasnāt exactly been my teacher but others have said sheās good at what she does. One of the original slashers.ā Apophis gave a chuckle before he actually began to ponder to himself. āI mean, I think sheās a good teacher. Maybe one day Iāll get paired up with her. She could show me all kinds of tricks and all that jazz. Iām sure she showed you.ā
āMy teacher was Johnny. Heās a pretty strict teacher, but pretty good. Determined and brutal.ā Apophis continued before crossing his arms, deep in thought as he remembered his first trial. ā They call him the chad. Heās supposedly pretty handsome,ā
Apophis found himself leaning in, almost as if to whisper to the woman.
āAnd you would know itā¦he actually is pretty damn handsome.ā Apophis blinked, almost in surprise despite having seen the other slasher unmasked many times now. āIām supposed to be the handsome one hereā¦I mean, obviously I am, but Johnny sure does take a lot of the attention. I canāt be mad though. The manās so good looking heās had so many partner I bet. Hell, I bet heās got a baby. No way he doesnāt have a kid; no way he hasnāt slept with someone and accidentally gotten them pregnant.ā
He noticed that the woman tilted her head at the sound of this, flattering Apophis at the sign of being listened to.
āHeās from the future. Pretty cool I guess.ā he shrugged once again. āHe made a suit that lights up with how heās feeling, itās interesting. You should see it some time.ā
The woman continued to stare at Apophis, eventually moving her head to face her front once again as Apophisā eyes followed her gaze. He now took in every detail of the statue before her.
āVasiliki.ā
āHuh?ā Apophisā eyes widened the slightest bit.
āVasiliki Danielopouslos.ā He heard a hoarse voice with an accent speak from behind the mask in a soft tone. āHiereia of the temple of Hygieia, Goddess of Health.ā
āWow, a whole priestess.ā Apophis blinked with a grin as he brought himself closer to the woman, not minding his coat getting a bit dirty as he sat on the ground near her. āSo, whatās your story. Vasiliki? What brought you to these realms?ā
āIā¦well, my family was filled with spear-making men. My father perfected a staff that served as a spear that was concealed.ā she began her story, now making it so that her full body faced Apophis. āAt a young age, my father managed to find a spot for me in the temple, even if he were nothing but creators. They saw potential when a message from the gods picked me.ā
āMessage from the gods?ā
āA snake. It came to me in my youth. I was nothing but a child playing with the animal I mostly favored. My father instantly believed I was chosen by the gods; that I was the messenger for Hygieia who had sent the snake to me.ā Vasiliki shared as she clasped her rotting hands together, shifting almost uncomfortably. āAs the years went by, I became a leader in the temple. A mother, some would say. Savior, others said.ā
āSavior?ā Apophis questioned, but not in a doubtful manner, receiving a nod from Vasiliki.
āAs the wars occurred, so did many plagues. As I grew, I learned medicine. I learned combat from the shadows of my brothers. I healed the ill. I defended the weak. I cured them and offered hope I never knew I could provide.ā she now squeezed a bunch of her dress. āBut even thenā¦many died. I was not the savior they thought of me as.ā
Apophisā smile faded as he heard Vasiliki speaking, thinking to himself that thisā¦this was an interesting new killer.
āYou helped many people, you really tried.ā he pointed out, uncrossing his arms before placing his elbows on his knees. āWhy is somebody like you here? A person helping others, now here hunting those finalists. Why did they pick you?ā
Vasilikiās empty eye holes stared deep into Apophisā own eyes, a silence filling their air before she once again turned away. Maybe she didn;t know. Maybe she did, and it was a rather sensitive topic.
āWe just met, you donāt have to tell me.ā he reassured her, watching as Vasilikiās form hunched over. So naturally, Apophis brought himself even closer, daring to lift a hand to nudge the womanās arm.
And almost in an instant did she whip her head to look at him, almost in an intimidating manner without meaning to be. His touch was almostā¦electric. Others had dared laid hands on her, whether it had been in defense or to bother and distract her. But this man, this snakeā¦it was almostā¦acceptable.
āAre youā¦are you a descendant of Medusa?ā she gulped, clenching her fists with an anxiety she could not determine was positive or negative.
āI mean, my mother told me the story. Iām not sure if Iām related but I can say my mother called me a curse or blessing depending on her mood of the day.ā Apophis took a seat beside Vasiliki, shrugging to himself. āWhat do you think?ā
āHer story saddens me. I venerate Medusa.ā Vasiliki confessed, running her sharpened fingers over the golden texture of her snake armband. āI consider her curse a blessing.ā
