Just Vasily and [Y/N] acting like eldery marriage despite not being together.

A muffled humph left Vasily’s chest as he grasped her cheeks and pulled her close enough for his eyes to froze her soul. She held onto his wrist as she stood on the tip-toes. Her pupils shook as she looked at him. The man was bigger, stronger and way more deadly than her. And she had the rare ability to strain even the sniper’s patience.
She huffed as she tried to push him away but to vain. She shouldn’t have helped him. She should have left him to die the night she found him. Or at least forbit him from coming back. He was like a stray that got feed once. He was a foreigner. A stranger. Outsider. There was no place for him there. He was only confusing and hard to understand.
But as his grasp lightened and a quiet sigh left his scarred mouth, she couldn’t step away. She shallowed heavily as he looked at her a bit gentler. As if he came to terms with the reality. Vasily bend down to rest his forehead against her. His words were obscure. Deformed by his scars. But she probably wouldn’t understand even if his speech was crystal clear.
He was doing it again. He was tossing between leaving and pulling her closer. Between stranger and lover.
“I don’t understand!” she snarled as he finally snatched from his hold. She took a step back and pretended to be overly focused on the herd nearby. She refused to look at him but at the same time didn’t leave her spot. She was no better than him. Unable to push him away more than an arm length.
Vasily answered, his words foreign to her. But he didn’t seem any more enthusiastic than her. He pinched the bridge of his nose before taking a deep breath. He snatched his rifle from the grass it was dropped to and tossed it over his shoulder. He walked towards the village but stopped as the woman didn’t seem to follow. He outstretched his hands towards her.
[Y/N] tossed him a gruffy glare and met one matching her own. The blue eyes dared her. The choice was hers. She reluctantly took his hand.
Despite everything his hold on her was firm as they walked together.
Despite everything it seemed as if they were stuck with each other for the time being.
His gunshot scars havent fully healed so he still cant talk

Vasily's kisses are so warm and sweet. He enjoys gently pulling you close to him by wrapping his arms around your waist, and kissing you. It's like a blanket of love and warmth has been wrapped all around you.
And if you aren't tall enough to give him a kiss, all you have to do is get on your tippy toes (or, yknow, just ask) and he'll bend down in a heartbeat to meet you in the middle.
He'll give you lots and lots of kisses to make up for the fact he cant verbally tell you he loves you.
But of course if you ever lean over his shoulder to watch him draw, he'll write "I love you", before proceeding to smile at you with the sweetest little smile you've seen.
When you cuddle, Vasily likes to run his fingers along your skin - maybe on your wrists, jawline, or anywhere else youre comfortable with.
Vasily is quite observant and notices fluctuations in your mood. Sometimes if he sees you agitated, he'll act on it by getting you something to eat or drink and insisting that you sit or do some activity with him until you calm down.
Similarly, sometimes he gets so engrossed in a task that you have to pull him away or distract him from it to get him to rest. He himself doesn't notice when he gets too invested in something, so he's always thankful when you help him with that.
Sometimes he draws you when you arent looking. One time he showed you one of the drawings, and he could've sworn that his heart skipped a beat when he saw how flustered you got when you saw it, so he made it a point to show you each time just to see your reaction.
If you're an artist too, he'll always praise your artworks even if you don't think your art is that good. Sometimes he'll even ask to keep pieces of paper you drew on, or purposely give you small sticky notes to doodle on so he can keep it with him wherever he goes.
Sometimes you notice the side of Vasily's hand is dark with pencil lead. One time he looked upon you horrified after cupping your cheeks in his palms and notcing a dark spot on your face when he pulled away, only to chuckle at himself and relax when he realised it's just lead.
He makes it a point to clean up stray eraser dust, but sometimes you find some pieces that he missed littered across your table or floor.
He'll let you doodle little things or write messages in his sketchbook. He enjoys looking back on them knowing that it was you who added it - he likes knowing you were thinking about him. You once wrote a little "Y/N was here !" message in it when he wasn't looking, and it made him light up when he eventually found it.
When Vasily's hair is down, it tends to tickle your forehead when you kiss. Sometimes you'll run your hands through his hair, and he always hums softly to show you that he likes it.
Sometimes he'll lean his head against your shoulder, as if he's a little cat asking for pats.
He likes to help you pick out clothes he thinks you'd look good in, and would absolutely style your hair if you're okay with it (even if it's short, he'll find a way). It's cheesy, but he likes to wear matching outfits / colours with you.
When you're out for a walk, he likes to pick flowers for you and put one behind your ear. There was once a time you both stopped to admire a meadow, and he took that opportunity to make a flower crown for you. Plus, any flower you pick for him will be pressed and immortalized in his sketchbook by the end of the day.
When you and Vasily hold hands, he'll absentmindedly rub his thumb along your knuckles. The warmth of his hand comforts you.
Sometimes you sneak up on Vasily when he's invested in a task to kiss his cheek or the back of his neck or wrap your arms around his waist. Usually he sees you coming, but when he doesnt ? His sweet flustered expression makes your heart flutter.
His eyes are mesmerizing, you could stare into them all day.
Fortunately for you, he could stare at your eyes all day too.
and youll both be staring and then smiling like a pair of lovestruck fools.
Sometimes Vasily cuddles you by having you sit between his legs while you both do your own thing.
He likes to sit with you on his lap facing away from him so he can rest his head on your shoulder while you work on things. Unfortunately this also spells for absolutely zero concentration on the task at hand from your end, but he insists he just wants to watch !
He lets you make little braids in his hair, and he'll just let them stay there. If you want to add ribbons or clips or anything, he usually doesn't mind as long as its not super bulky.
He's like a cat in that you can pet his hair and run your fingers through it while he leans on you, and he'll be quick to fall asleep.
Vasily is less of the type to let you have his coat when youre cold, but rather when he realises youre cold, he'll bundle up to you and try and fit you with him in his coat no matter how impractical it is.
Sometimes youll tuck some loose strands of hair behind his ear or brush his bangs out of his face. If your hair is long enough, he started taking to mimicking that action for you.
Sometimes he lays down on the floor to draw, and you are always invited to floor time.

You two have a nonverbal way of communicating
Tracing a circle on your wrist means he likes it, while tapping three times means stop
Tapping with two fingers means faster, drawing a line means slower
When you run your hands along Vasily's chest and body, he tries to put on a brave face, but you can always feel his subtle yet blatantly obvious jolts when you touch him somewhere he likes.
He likes to hide his face when embarassed by burying it in your neck or by kissing you.
He lets you hold his boobs. Need I say more ?
You can give Vasily head and through nearly the whole thing he'll be tracing circles on your wrist.
And when he gets close to finishing, he'll be tapping on the back of your neck with two fingers like crazy.
He's not very loud when aroused, but he tends to gasp and groan softly, and his breathing becomes much more audible.
When you're between his legs, you can feel the way he tries not to close his thighs around you. It becomes almost like a game to see how much he can handle without impulsively squeezing you between his legs or thrusting into your mouth.
Vasily is scared to hurt you on accident, so you sometimes have to reassure him. And even if he did, he'd do all he could to make up for it.
When you jack him off for the first time, he puts his hand on yours to guide you to touch him how he likes it.
Vasily loves when you sit on his lap and face him, it makes it that much easier for him to hold you close. Plus, he loves to tease you, and the feeling of you squirming on his legs gives him butterflies.
He'll run his fingers up and down your back and trail kisses on your neck, leaving your skin tingling.
The artist in him loves to observe little details, and he'll try and learn everything about your body that he can. Whether thats making a mental note of moles / birthmarks, noting where you're most sensitive to touch, and all the little dips and curves of your body. He'll remember it.
Sometimes you get embarassed and look away, but without fail he'll always tilt your chin gently back to him. He loves seeing you flustered, especially knowing he was the one who put you in that state.
It still hurts for Vasily to open his mouth too wide, so he cant bite, but he'll gently drag his fingernails along your skin.
He's such a gentle dom, but dont get things mistaken. He loves to mess with you and loves to feel your body pressing against him, as if youre ask for more without your words.
He'll purposely go slowly in order to savour you and your reactions, but that usually leads to you begging him for more. And it's a win-win for him, as he either gets to see you in pleasure for longer, or he gets to hear you softly plead to him.
Vasily pays so much care into foreplay, he always makes sure to set the mood in just the way you like it. Whether it's setting up the atmostphere with candles, or just holding you close and trailing kisses along your body - if you want it, he'll do it.
He'll always make note of what positions and actions turn you on the most. Even if it's something he's not used to, he'll do it if it means he gets to see you enjoying yourself.
(Not to mention that the more aroused he gets you, the better itll feel when he fucks you)
Vasily wants to start out gentle, but he can get a little rough if he knows youre comfortable with it.
Whether its pulling on your hair or being more forceful as he pushes you down. Over and over, he'll do it and find your reactions to it adorable each time.
He doesn't like to restrain your hands though, as he can't get enough of you touching him.
He likes to hold your hips in place when he fucks you, partly to make things easier for him, but partly because he loves to turn you into a mess only to pull out just when youre really getting into it.
Vasily will watch in amusement as you wriggle and try to inch yourself closer to his dick again, and he'll smile softly at you as your efforts are to no avail as he holds you still. He holds you there until you beg. Until you beg for him to fuck you.
Your moans and whimpers are music to his ears and he wants to wring as many out of you as possible.
You're dealing with sniper's patience - be prepared to be up late for quite some time.
And when you moan his name ? It makes his head spin. It makes him want to push you to the edge but not let you cross it, just to hear you say it over and over.
And he will do it. Over. And over. Until you beg for him to let you finish.
Vasily likes to fuck you in missionary so he can easily kiss you and see your face.
And if he gives you head, he'll hold your thighs in place so you can't squeeze his head with them.
Youll run your hands through his hair and he'll give you a little hum of approval, but the vibrations of his deep voice only end up pushing you further.
He won't stop until you're so sensitive that you wonder if you can even take it or not. And at that point, you're already letting out incoherent moans and noises that you couldnt even string a sentence together, and the words that do come out are indecipherable.
Saying that Vasily loves hearing you and seeing you in that state is an understatement. He wishes he could just freeze time and pull out his sketchbook so he can keep this moment and treasure it.
And sometimes he'll be staring at you so intently that you wonder what's going on in that mind of his.
(In truth hes just making note after note in his head so he can draw you like this later)
When he fucks you, he always pulls out to cum on your stomach. He just adores the sight of you breathless under his touch covered in his spend.
When you peg him, he's so obedient to do whatever you say, all while letting out low groans and whimpers.
When it comes to aftercare, any roughness Vasily mightve shown immediately dissipates as he opts to help clean you up, and he'll give you even more kisses to let you know how much he enjoyed it.
But of course youre both too exhausted to do anything much but wipe off any mess made before inevitably falling asleep in each others arms.
Omgggggg you write for GK I'm so happy I found you!!! Can I ask for HCs of Ogata, Vasily, and Sugimoto with a fem!s/o who's super smart and always somehow helps them through predicaments even if she isn't a trained fighter? Maybe a good strategist or very knowledgeable, open-minded and kind person...Thank you! 😌🙏🙏
Ogata:
-Tbh he will still kinda look down on you because you are weak. Not that he is the strongest person ever now, is he?
-Still, he will be impressed at your knowledge and intelligence. He appreciates it when you get everyone out of trouble with a clever plan.
-Your kindness though... is off-putting. Don’t be kind to him, he won’t be kind to you. At least that is his logic. When you two tag along on a mission together, you are basically the good cop and he is the bad cop.
-Sometimes he will bluntly tell you to stop being so cocky when you are simply explaining something to someone, just for the kicks. “You should wash your face now, you got a bit of snob on it.” and then proceeds to give you a shit-eating grin when you glare at him.
Vasily:
-Greatly appreciates your strategies. He is often asking you for positioning in certain areas when he is unsure of where should he go.
-Always follows your plans. Always. He knows there is little chance to fail if he follows your lead.
-He is caught off-guard with your kindness. You barely know him (maybe even can’t understand him?) and you smile at him so softly and offer him food and company? That is something else.
-If you don’t speak russian, he will get very excited when you start learning words so you can speak to him. Usually you communicate via drawings, but being able to understand verbally makes him happy beyond words.
Sugimoto:
-He is amazed by your ‘big brains’ as he calls it. Honeslty he feels kind of stupid when you come out with a clever idea about a problem you were having. “Huh, how didn’t i think about that?”
-Be kind to him. Please keep being kind to him, lord knows he needs it. He wants to cry when you show him even the smallest act of kindness.
-If you are ok with it, he would like to speak about his problems and his thoughts with you, both as a way to let it all out and to hear what you think. Your open-mindedness is something he greatly appreciates in moments like that.
-Sometimes you want to facepalm because he won’t shut up about you being so smart. He will literally show you off to everyone everytime he gets the chance.
You are right! so there you go ~2 300 words of slice of life? fluff? idk just Vasily x reader stuff.
Enjoy!
Yet another couple handed the gun back with merry chuckles despite winning the smallest prize. Because that’s what matters during traveling carnivals like this one: to spend time together, to have fun, to win some cheap gift for the person you are fond of.
But some people only had fun when they won.
[Y/N] slammed her money on the table and basically snatched the gun from the game master’s hands. It was lighter than Vasily’s. Not that she would know. For that she would have to touch Vasily’s gun. And Vasily forbade her. So she didn’t. Yeah, she never touched it.
But it doesn’t matter. Did she know how to aim? Of course not. But she watched some good sniper a time or two so she knew the drill. First you have to stand there, looking cute- okay she could skip the cute part. Not many people agreed with her perception of the deadly sniper as cute.
[Y/N] closed her eyes and imagined one of the hunts. Her body mimicked the fluid motion as Vasily braced his rifle on his shoulder and lifted it to aim. People called him an artist because of his drawings. But she could see art in the way he aimed. A well oiled machine, impossible to miss. A breath in, a breath out. Slowly the noise died out and only the steady beating of her heart remained. Her eyes opened and fixed on the glass bottle with the same sharp gaze as his. For a moment she could feel the steady presence of a sniper over her shoulder. He wasn’t there, but the print he left on her soul remained. And suddenly the sky was the limit.
Dark glass shattered in front of her eyes. She wasted no second, the sharp clack of reloading natural like her breath. Aim, trigger, shot. Another one out. Third. Fourth. Fifth. And a dull click of an empty mechanism. Only then reality caught up to her.
[Y/N] lowered the barrel, noise finally reaching her ears. Music, laughter and ovation from the witnesses of her stunt. Now she could understand his fixation. The adrenaline in her blood made her laugh uncontrollably as she clutched onto the empty gun. She snapped out of it only when a beautiful assistant handed her leather straps. [Y/N] took them, gave her borrowed rifle back and looked at the horse at the other end of reins.
A horse. With full tack. So THAT was the main prize?
She slowly met the vendor's eyes and realized the danger looming over her. The game was not to be won. It was carefully rigged to make hitting all five of them impossible. Blind bullets unable to hit all targets. But the bottles were shattered and there were too many witnesses to call it all back. And the vendor knew it. The deadly glare disappeared as a forced smile forced its way on his face. He called for more applause for the skilled lady.
Well, a horse with a full track was not something one might expect to win at a shooting stall worth 5 bullets but it was damn good advertisement wasn’t it? [Y/N] looked at the reins put in her hand and once more at the murderous vendor. The woman was gone before draggers started flying her way.
The festival was left behind as she climbed uphill with her mighty steed. With each step the adrenaline in her veins died out and laughter shook her shoulders. She won a damn horse at the shooting competition.
She stopped under a lone spruce, which soon started to sway. Loose needles fell over her head and suddenly a fine russian hung from the lowest branch before landing nearby. She still was yet to witness the art of him climbing a tree with an ass his size. But it was not the time to watch his acrobatics.
“I won!” [Y/N] proudly presented the newly acquired horse.
Vasily lifted a brow pointing at her. I? His finger jumped between her and himself, reminding that it was pretty much a team work.
[Y/N] wrapped her arms around the animal’s neck. “I money.” I paid. “I bang!” I shot. “I won.” The prize is mine. Okay, maybe he was the one to actually hit the bottles but reins were given to her hand. All the other men were giving their trophies to their girlfriends. And while she couldn't call Vasily her lover she deserved a gift too, didn't she?
Vasily took a good look at the horse she was protecting so fiercely. A gelding with not much thought behind those eyes. A bit underweight and crooked in a few places. With a spotted coat that pretty much suited its ex carnival career. Probably knew some stupid tricks. Overall it was a good deal for those five bullets he wasted but not enough to argue with this woman.
With resignation Vasily pointed back at the festival. It was still early and they had some time to spare before their party departed. But [Y/N] didn’t seem interested in any other games. In fact she dragged him away… As if wanting to disappear? Reluctantly Vasily followed her, leaving any hopes for a date night behind.

The merchant was a rough woman who created her empire by herself. Overdue retirement by a great length she would rather die than give a single bite of her business to her ungrateful kids. And yet the very same woman was standing still, with a leftover cigarette between her teeth, as her eyes traced over the drawings left in the dirt.
Merely an hour ago [Y/N] and Vasily were standing in this very spot. It was hard to decipher what they were talking about as he was mute and she attempted to use Russian. The debate was heated, full of huffs, the easiest words possible and drawings and ended in both of them leaving.
An old wagon clacked loudly on the road. “We are done,” reported coachman.
Merchant grabbed her skirt and stepped onto the wagon with the energy of somebody about to see their money. With a content nod she looked at the freshly acquired cargo. Transactions were made, money as well. It was a good day.
“They ain’t back yet,” noticed Coachman. “We out without them?”
That was the usual rule. If a hand strayed off during work, nobody was waiting up. Money was paid at the end of the day and one hand less meant less to pay.
But the glare Merchant gave him suggested this rule did not apply to Vasily. He was weird, suspicious, and a stranger from out of town. But he was doing his work well and there was no sharpshooter like him anywhere around. Not even for twice the money they paid him. And Merchant was more likely to send other hands to look for her guard and his emotional support girl (nobody knew why he brought her with them in the first place), than to depart back without them.
The good thing was, Vasily and [Y/N] were kind enough to appear back soon enough. The newly acquired horse did make a show and other workers gathered to watch Vasily mount it. While everybody watched, waiting for some mean bucks, one person appeared by the wagon.
[Y/N] said not a word but her eyes spoke business. Merchant only exhaled another gust of gray smoke. “Any magic words?”
The young woman didn’t follow, she didn’t even blink at the acid smoke surrounding the whole wagon. Finally she reached into her inner pocket and pulled out a pouch. A magic word in the world of business. Merchant shifted her skirt and revealed a bag hidden under her seat. [Y/N] took it shiftily and checked the inside. She carefully dug under paper filling and pulled out a small jar or two to examine better. Somehow satisfied, she left her pouch in return. The transaction was made without a word.
“Girl got the nerve huh?” hummed Coachman, before taking another breath full of smoke himself.
Merchant only scoffed as she watched [Y/N] return to the crowd and be given her horse back. While it was common to joke about men going to wars for their women, a woman could be just as determined for her man. And this one got some serious attitude since this Russian stayed in their town.
Merchant spent the entire journey watching her constantly vigilant sniper watching for anything that moved in the surrounding mountains. And a town girl stealing a glance at him every other step. Even when they got home after dark, she followed him around, helping to unpack smaller cargo, while men hauled big crates. Until storage was filled and horses were fed, nobody would even see their money.
But it was also too late and too dark for young ladies.
Merchant snatched [Y/N] aside with a firm grip on her arm. “I know how long it takes to get to your home and back. Make him walk you home and if he doesn’t return fast enough, I’m ain’t paying him a yen.” Upon seeing her surprised gaze, she added: “Now.”
[Y/N] didn’t need to be told twice.

Their horses cantered calmly down the well known path between fields. The moon provided just enough light to see the edge of the road and made them brave enough for this speed. But it was still semi dark and her horse was new. She was one noise away from being ejected from the saddle like a catapult.
But she was always a bit stupid when with him. So she stood in her stirrups, letting wind comb her hair just because he was by her side.
Vasily almost rode up her doorsteps before turning his horse around. There was some kind of art in the way he balanced in saddle. A fluid connection, a perfect movement. His stallion, a meanie to the society, was a perfect mount when he held the reins. And now they approached her. [Y/N] observed his antics because while she knew he meant no harm, she also knew he could pull a stunt. True enough her leg got squeezed between fluffy sides and for once his stallion didn’t try to bite every other animal around. Either it was Vasily’s skills in controlling it or this horse was a damn good wing man. Vasily ignored her pretentious glare as he rested against the horn of his saddle. His eyes were even brighter in the darkness, his hair ruffled after thier canter and his face was dotted with faint freckless as he got more sun during spring. It was difficult not to look at his lips so [Y/N] focused on counting his eyelashes instead.
“Today happy. Thank you,” she uttered in poor Russian. From this distance she could feel his scoff on her skin. She could also feel his eyes tracing over her features. They could be stupid. They could be so damn stupid and have the best night of their life. But she shoved her bag against his chest with enough force to make his horse step aside. “For you.” [Y/N] pretended not to see his disappointed gaze and glanced towards the town, where workers’ lights could still be seen. She had no idea if Merchant was just trying to scare her or if the old rag would actually cut his pay if he slacked off.
[Y/N] grabbed his hand while he tried to peek at his mysterious gift and intertwined their pinkies. Her lips opened and closed as she searched his face in the darkness. She forgot every word in Russian she knew. So she shook their hands to emphasize the pinky promise. She taught him what it meant, she taught him to promise. “Home. Fast.”
Vasily looked from thier joined hands to her and back. His shoulders slumped in defeat as he nodded his head. Who was he to say no to her?
***
It’s easy to say that both Merchant and her Coachman, and also other hands and probably even the horses were surprised to see Vasily back so fast. The sour shadow on his face stopped each and every possible joke as he helped to finish the work.
Vasily got his damn money and returned to the small room he was given for working around. His rifle and bag was carefully placed down before the rest of his belonging was snached off and thrown whenever. He dragged her with him, he took her to a carnival, he walked her home and nothing. Not even a kiss. For crying out loud was a date night too much to ask for?! It was late, he was tired, that day was a nightmare and- And there was a bag given to him. Vasily stopped aggressively snatching off his clothes and looked at the bag left by the door.
A candle was lit, a place was made and he sat down with his gift. His hands worked slowly and carefully as if he handled something holy. It was quite heavy so it probably wasn’t just some trinket. He opened the main pouch and started pulling out all the newspapers used as filling. From the bottom, one after another were pulled small jars and placed in an even row in front of him. In the side pocket he also found a handful of brushes.
Vasily rested his head on his hand as he looked at the colorful paints in the dim light. Only then a small smile pulled on his scareed cheeks. A joy more suitable to a child on Christmas morning than a man like him.
It wasn’t that she was jealous. She was not. It was perfectly logical thinking. He couldn’t stay at her place because they were both unmarried. Valid point. But why was he staying at shepherd’s place? Shepherd had a daughter no much younger than her. That’s unfair. It doesn’t matter that there were the shepherd and his wife and also 3 other of their kids living there too. Vasily staying at their place meant a young woman and a young man, unrelated and unmarried, living under one roof.
“Come to think about it, it must be cramped to live there. Why not at the old farrier house? They are old and all their kids are out of the village. You know what I mean?” she asked nobody in particular as there was only her soaking and her shampoo judging her silently.
That day was gray and wet. It wasn’t really raining but it was mizzling monotonously all day. The ground turned into mud, laundry was not drying, even her animals refused to leave their hut. So she sat there, her skin wrinkling in hot water, with way too much time to think.
At least till a knock at the front door stopped her one-person-discussion.
Her shoulders tensed as her head whipped towards the sound. It was neither time nor weather for visitors. Her blood ran cold in her veins but then: a teapot. [Y/N] instantly deflated with a deep exhale. She sluggishly made it out of the bath as knocking echoed again.
She lent this old crippled teapot to her neighbour. It was rather impressive for such an old lady to be determined to give it back in such weather. For all she cared, the granny could just keep this rubbish for herself. She never used it anyway.
[Y/N] wrapped a towel around herself and crossed the corridor. Granny was too blind to notice and apparently rather impatient as knocking didn’t stop. Maybe it was a bit cruel to keep such an old lady outside in such weather. Hopefully she will not ask for hot tea in return. [Y/N] was not in a mood for visitors.
She pulled her towel a bit higher and opened the door slightly with the most polite smile this village has seen.
Well… She was right, it was about the damn teapot. What she didn’t expect was for the granny to ask a kind, young man to deliver it back for her.
[Y/N] slowly lifted her eyes to his as Vasily was a tad taller than her expected neighbour and slammed the door with enough force to rattle all the shelves on the wall.
Vasily on the other side couldn’t hold back a satisfied smile. He was not expecting such views when agreeing to help babushka. Despite low light and the sudden slam of the door he could catch a glimpse of the gentle curve of her shoulder still glimmering with water. He could imagine the rest.
A frantic rustle inside and very fast and nervous steps finally quietened and the door opened just slightly. She seemed to clutch onto crumbs of her dignity as she welcomed him at her doorstep. Now draped with whatever clothes she could find with her hair dripping onto her shoulder. He snapped out of it only when she tried to take his package. His arm instantly shot away, to her great disappointment. He knew she would disappear the moment she got what she wanted. So he took a step back and pointed at his soaked cloak. He was wet and cold, such a sorry look wasn’t it?
[Y/N] held his gaze for a moment but relented. She stepped inside, inviting him as well. “No guard duty tonight?” she asked as he kicked his shoes off.
>>Too wet. Animals inside,<< signed Vasily. These were simple signs but she could guess the message. Shepherd was the richest man in the village. It doesn’t matter that his animals were born to survive on Karafuto. If he wanted he could sleep with them in his bed. At least Vasily had a night off.
His cloak was hung near the fire to dry and a fresh pot of tea was made. But Vasily didn’t seem interested too much. Instead he tugged at her hand the moment she was close enough pulling her onto the floor with him.
Vasily was a man born and raised in the cold. It lived in his bones. But with her close, and her arms around his neck, every ice seemed to melt. With her breath on his neck spring seemed to bloom in his chest. So he held her close, even if just for a moment. His face found its place hidden in her neck, where he could breathe air filled with her.
His shoulder shifted just enough for her to look at him and so he could sign simple >>smell, good.<< They made this language as they went. Just simple words to get the message, no grand poems.
[Y/N] sniffed her forearm. Must be the oils she ran her bath with. but she didn’t know any plants in Russian so she said simply “flowers.”
Vasily nodded with a hum, before pulling her back close. Flowers, she said. He could smell flowers. But he could also smell the same scent as when they worked together. Or when they met in the village. Or that night when she dragged him across the yard, eaten alive by fiver. Just the scent of her, that his body missed every time she was away.

It was a noble work. To bridge the gap between hard working husbands and worried wives. To carry a still warm meal for labourers. To cross a dangerous forest on her mighty steed. Some would say she got kicked out to fetch food on an old mare, on a path impossible to stray off. But she knew better.
At least the day was wonderful, the forest was alive and it was surprisingly warm for Karafuto. So she trotted, at the maximum speed her horse allowed, to the work site. Her arrival was a welcomed one and even more her cargo. [Y/N] gave away all her boxes and ended up with one last in hand. She quickly ran a head count and her puzzled gaze caught the attention of the workers.
“Oy! Vasya!” Yelled one of them down the valley. And there, in the freezing mountain creek, knee deep stood Vasily trying to get most of the grime and sweat off his shirt.
She knew he was well built. He was the size of a mountain. He was an ex-military now working mostly physically. She saw men topless before too. She could get the picture. But that view… That view filled her heart with greed that will not grant her a seat in heaven.
The way the sun shifted in the droplets splattered on his skin. The way his muscles shifted under his skin as if it was common to hold such strength within one's body. The way his pecks were bigger than her pillow. The way his stomach looked like he could easily survive next winter. No wonder he could easily pick her up and place her away anytime she was in the way. All of this just hidden under a plain cotton shirt?
Vasily on the other hand seemed unaware he was the reason why [Y/N] was folding like origami.
All his career Vasily believed a sniper shall never get overtaken by his emotions. And he followed this rule on field and in private life. But the lever of pettiness he learned from this woman was astonishing.
His body remained firm and unmoving. His arms crossed, expression neutral, eyes fixed on her, blinking slowly. There wasn’t even a drop of pity in his gaze as she tried to balance on his lap. Not even a twitch of his pinky to keep her steady. Mere inches between their faces and not even a smile from him. >>It’s impressive you learned russian just to lie to me.<< he signed.
At first he fell for it, he had to admit that. The way she seemed concerned, helped him search around the house. He was sure he brought it home that day but she convinced him that he left it. He trusted her. And it was his mistake. It was a week. He searched the entire village back and forth. It was gone.
But she was there, trying and failing to find her place on his lap (where she usually belonged during their free evenings) visibly guilty. Vasily could guess it was not about her staining their kitchen with dye again. His brow lifted with silent mockery as she huffed with annoyance. Her scooting closer only made him lean back, against his armchair.
“Lying is a strong word.” Her antsy gaze and slight pout suggested she was not happy with his lack of affection. Vasily started to wonder when exactly he spoiled her so much. But their stubbornness matched each other and Vasily was a patient man. So he sat there and waited for her to give in.
He was an unmovable object. Nothing could make him relent. Not even a kiss on his cheek, not even her nose nuzzling against his, not even his name on her lips. It was a true test of will even for the sniper as at any other occasion his hands would already be on her body.
“Don’t be mad…” she whispered against his temple as her coaxing did not work.
Mad? He should be pissed and most of the men he knew would not be so kindly patient-
Soft fabric glided over his head and around his neck. His body tensed as his hair fell over his eyes. His hands grasped her tights as she shifted, correcting the fabric.
“I still have to finish the edges but somebody was impatient.” It's impressive how she could turn every word into a slur if she wanted.
Vasily tossed her a warning glare and pulled the fabric off his head to take a better look at it. It was almost identical to his bashlyk. The color matched and so did the decorative cords. But the woolen fabric was soft and lacked this worn out texture. There were no mended tears nor years old stains here and there. Only a small embroidery pattern at the ends of the scarf.
Vasily lifted his eyes to hers. It was a kind gift but her expression didn’t exactly match it. Her eyes were gloomy and her shoulders tense as she awaited his reaction. >>Where is the old one?<< This question made her flinch but she reluctantly scooted off his lap and crossed the room. She rummaged a bit in the woven basket, where she kept her spare fabric and pulled out a familiar hood. Vasily could have sworn he checked this damn basket when he flipped the whole house upside down searching for it, but he skipped this fact for a moment. When she brought it back to him he could easily notice a huge, dark splash on the left side of the hood.
“I was…” There was a pause as her vocabulary was still rather limited. “...making threats red. And it spilled… I’m sorry Vasya, washing didn’t work and I was scared to tear the fabric. I can try to cover it with embroidery if you want…”
There wasn’t much conviction in her voice. The stain was huge and on the most prominent spot of his hood. He inspected the scarlet splash for a bit. It was an old piece. He got it even before the army. It was warm and practical so he kept it and mended when it tore. Some might call it a sentiment.
Vasily looked at the woman crouching by his seat. Her wet eyes suggested she was more worried about his old hood than he was. With a deep exhale he moved on his seat and made some room for her. The old armchair creaked in protest under their shared weight but it did every time and didn’t break so far. It was by no means a two person seat but they learned to make it work.
>>No need to lie to me<< signed Vasily with their faces so close that their foreheads touched. That’s what pissed him the most after a week of looking for it.
“I just needed more time to sew a new one…” mumbled [Y/N], shifting slightly against his shoulder.
Vasily nodded his head slowly. >>Made it yourself?<<
“I ran for the fabric the same day I stained it,” she admitted. “and copied yours the best I could.”
Another slow nod from Vasily. He carefully placed the old hood on the floor and took one more look at the new one. >>It was old already.<< his thumb glided against the thick wool. >>Any fabric left?<<
“A bit.”
>>Enough for my cap?<<
[Y/N] tossed a glance towards his cloak hanging in the corridor, where his papakha was stuffed. After a moment of contemplation she nodded. “I can try.” The tension in her body let go as she melted against him.
Vasily shifted to place a kiss on her temple. >>Thank you, love.<<
His bashlyk carried memories of his old life. But he had a new one now.
