Ceiling decoration, Giovanni Alberti (b. 1558, Borgo San Sepolcro, d. 1601, Roma) 1596-1602 Fresco The Sala Clementina in the west wing of the Vatican Palace was painted between 1596 and 1602 by the quadratura painters Giovanni and Cherubio Alberti. In the centre of the illusionistic ceilling opening St Clement is depicted in glory, framed by a number of virtues and by huge cartouches with the papal coat of arms
