(( DID SOMEONE SAY DRABBLES? let's do Sleep ahaha~ twin times! ))
All the way from behind her closed door, Vater could still hear his sister’s voice, chiming out soft but sharp against the silence that surrounded them otherwise. She was singing again, and the gentle lilt of it carried notes of a children’s song to him:
“Au clair de la lune Mon ami Pierrot Prête-moi ta plumePour écrire un mot…”
It made him chuckle. It had certainly been a while since he’d heard that song, but it fit her. It was the kind of song such a voice was suited to. The closeness of the melody was the next thing to dawn on him…was she already in bed?
Pushing the door open at last, he found his question answered— Vader lay curled up on her pristine sheets, singing to the ceiling— as least until she saw him. When he emerged the songbird lost her voice, pale eyes going wide with surprise. A smile tugged at his lips at the sight.
“Oh? What brings you here, brother dear?” His eyes narrowed with an almost childlike mischief at the question, and he perched at the edge of her bed, sliding back to sit beside her. “I couldn’t sleep, I’m afraid.” (He’d made no attempt to, in truth.)
“But I’m welcome here, right?” Not waiting for a response, he crept in under her blankets, and with a short (almost nervous) laugh she followed suit. How could she say no to him? Aside from the obvious (the obvious is up to you to determine), it would be awfully cold sleeping here alone tonight.
“…You’re always welcome here.” Slipping in as close as she dared, the princess wrapped her arms around her fellow regent, and he nuzzled close in a downright familial way. “Sing me a little more of that song before we sleep, won’t you?”
They moved in closer still, he closed his eyes and thus hers shut with them. Her voice rang out again, soft and sleepy:
“Ma chandelle est morte Je n’ai plus de feu…”
She slowed further still, drifting off, and his laugh came softer than a whisper.
"Ouvre-moi...ta porte Pour l'amour de Dieu..."
With Vader’s song ended her waking moments, as well as her brother’s self-restraint— not to cradle her closer after such a endearing display had to be a crime, punishable by law.
