What did she do to deserve this? Besides maybe desperate cannibalism and prostitution, assassination of customers from said prostitution… and maybe pickpocketing a little. But she only did so because she had to– escaping Legion territory and crossing the Colorado River as a runaway didn’t come without its sins. Hell, you couldn’t live past 20 in the regular wasteland without killing someone.
But even after saving New Vegas from the notorious Legion didn’t save her from being put in the ‘inmate’ section of the vault. Despite all the good she did, saving and helping people’s lives, she had done some things that were morally questionable. Perhaps it was the destruction of the Brotherhood of Steel’s Mojave branch condemned her here, or maybe killing Mr.House. Maybe it was making the hard choice when Ulysses launched the nuclear missles, and she didn’t have the skills to stop both of them, maybe it was the slaughter of the brilliant, eccentric minds at the Big MT... Or maybe, just maybe, it was because she called that soldier paying his respects to a memorial a “little bitch.”
How did she even get here anyway? It was all a blur… come to think of it, the only thing she remembered was falling asleep in her bed at the Penthouse, thinking it would be for the last time as her liver shut down and her heart stopped.
But it seemed she had been given a second chance at life… or did she? When she awoke, she found herself in the confines of a steel building, the architecture and posters on the walls indicating to her it was a vault. She remembered the announcement on the overhead speaker, telling her that she was now an inmate, a prisoner, and would be assigned a warden to supervise her. She had no idea what that meant. Maybe this was what the afterlife was like, a giant vault where you’re stuck in your apartment, and had to wait for this mysterious “warden” and do their bidding.
Considering most of the descriptions of hell were, this wasn’t so bad.
She kept herself curled up on her bed, the lights off, halfway asleep, and contemplating on exactly what and where she was.
