Stumbled upon this on Pinterest not too long ago and I'm already loving this. Sad that it didn't last long on Cartoon Network.

VBirds was a very small fraction of my childhood and it makes me happy to know there are others who can relate.
This small lost media was one of my first experiences of rep on TV.
I hope to make a VN someday, to make sense of their story and revive the hype.

The Cartoon Network show that remained obscure
Status Post #8651: In 2002, Cartoon Network UK announced plans to do an original show called VBirds, which would've focused on the pop group of the same name (all voiced by Sophie Okonedo, though the identity of their singing voices remains unknown, though her company Star Company Productions was credited in the singles) and to pique viewer interest, a short was included on The Powerpuff Girls VHS release, which led to a dance series called VBirds: Perfect and then a single titled "Virtuality", which peaked in the UK Top 40.
Sadly, despite the channel's high hopes along with the pop group being interviewed on SMTV Live, follow-up single "Dance with Me" failed to chart and a full series was never comissioned. Had the pilot been picked up, VBirds would've been the British equivalent of Vocaloid or more specificially, virtual music's answer to the Spice Girls.

Who else loved these fleeting Cartoon Network icons?? I remember them appearing on ad breaks circa 2003 and being a bonus feature on the Powerpuff Girls Movie VHS 📼
This virtual band even released ‘Virtuality’ as a single and it charted at #21 in the U.K. - I got this cassette copy on eBay a few months ago 💖
