@vclerios
she’d warred with herself for hours in an attempt to decide whether or not to dial his number. his picture laughed at her, sneered and mocked her as she’d stared at his contact. the urge to send for him, to call him to her room these past few weeks had been nearly undeniable, but she knew that she would regret it had she given in so easily. she’d always thought of herself as strong and incapable of being that girl who waits on a phone call or a rendezvous. but, of course, as everything was with valerio, this was an instance she couldn’t avoid. which is how she betrays herself, fingers trembling as the call goes through. she hates every ring on the other end, hopes for the indication that his voicemail would answer in his stead, but it’s the end of the ringing that makes her heart stop. and then it’s his voice on the other end that kickstarts it back into a painfully loud, painfully unsteady rhythm in her chest. she closes her eyes, reeling in every ounce of courage she’s got, wrapping her free arm around her knees. “ i have news. ” the words are more confidant than she’d expected, less unsteady than she’d thought they’d be and it hardens the resolve in the pit of her stomach. “ it’s big news, so i’m not completely sure i should tell you over the phone, but i figured you had no desire to see me. i actually didn’t expect you to pick up at all, but— ” she cut herself off, grinding her teeth at how silly her rambling was. “ but i’m glad you did. ”
