The best thing about the future? There were these tiny things, smaller than his palm, that could play hours of music, that contained millions of different songs, that didn’t require a change of record, only a simple tap on the screen. And there were headphones attached which meant you could listen to your music with the volume up and no neighbor would hit the wall or ceiling with the end of the broom because you were too loud. Sometimes the future was fantastic. That also included certain dance moves -- moves that he wouldn’t even have dreamed of doing back then because it could have gotten you arrested because they had been considered an act of indecency.
“Hu?” he made when he heard a voice (serum enhanced hearing meant you could pick things up even when the Andrews Sisters were blasting out of your headphones). “Um, did you say something?”

It’s the vibe, that sort of Sid-and-Nancy aura which alludes to things he’s no discernible interest in anymore. Intimacy, namely. That is, the sort Adam remembers having had once, long before all of this. With it gone, he’s all but declared himself celibate -- it isn’t quite the sacrifice modern society imagines. He is perfectly CONTENT in finding his old selves in history books.
