So, these are some OCs that just kind of... appeared in my head ? I think I like them though. I might try to play around with them a bit more, idk, we’ll see.
“Do you know why I like you, Vis? Why I love to hurt you?”
Vedon’s hand trailed down his captive’s bare chest, causing the boy’s body to jerk against his restraints with the desire to move away. His torturer’s light, almost tender touch was obviously upsetting to him. This made Vedon smile softly.
Evis didn’t respond, only bent his head back as far as his position strapped to the table would allow, as Vedon’s hand came back up to rest gently against his neck. The man bent down to whisper in Evis’ ear.
“I asked a question, dear. You’re supposed to answer.”
Evis didn’t want to answer. He felt sick with hatred and terror. His jaw tensed as he felt the man run a thumb over his Adam’s apple. A shiver of fear crawled through him.
He didn’t want to be choked again. He didn’t like how panicked the lack of air always made him feel. He didn’t like how his whole body began to burn from the loss of oxygen. He didn’t like the noises he involuntarily made every time.
“I’m being so patient, Vis, don’t ruin it.”
The boy glared into the eyes of his captor. An angry surge of courage swelled within him. “It’s because you’re a mentally disturbed son of a bitch.”
Evis half expected Vedon’s hand to tighten immediately around his throat, cutting off his air. But the older man simply rubbed his thumb gently back and forth against the boy’s jaw, a thoughtful look in his eyes as he gazed at his face. He stared in silence for a moment, as if he were appraising a work of fine art.
“It’s because of your fight,” he said, finally. “Your fire. You’ve always been one of the strongest people in any room. A trained fighter, almost a Warrior of the Graces. You’ve never felt true fear. You’ve never felt helpless. But you do now, don’t you?”
Evis’ lips had drawn together in a straight line, his brows creased. The soft, contemplative expression on his captor’s face caused an unpleasant feeling to settle in his stomach. He wasn’t fooled. There was something sharp, something venomous and deadly, lurking insidiously behind the softness.
“Answer me,” Vedon said gently, a dangerous look flashing through his green eyes despite his gentle tone. After Evis didn’t respond for another moment, the man’s fingers twitched on his throat, as if threatening to tighten.
Fear jolted an answer from the young man’s lips.
“Yes.”
Vedon removed his hand and turned away for a moment.
Evis could hear him doing something from behind his head, out of his line of vision. There were metallic clinks, like tools being shuffled around on a table. The boy’s stomach clenched. That’s exactly what it was.
“‘Yes’ what?” the man inquired as he continued to fiddle with the tools on the metal tray.
Evis chewed the inside of his lower lip. He didn’t want to say it. He didn’t want to.
“Yes, I feel helpless,” he relented.
“Mmm,” Vedon took a deep breath in through his nose, letting it out as he returned to Evis’ side. He held a long, thin knife in his hands. “Evis, you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that.”
Evis breaths became heavy, his eyes widening as he eyed the knife in his torturer’s hand. The older man reached over and rubbed a spot on his captive’s right shoulder, as his eyes wandered over the boy’s chest and abdomen. He looked back up into Evis’ eyes and smiled.
“Oh, forgive my staring. It’s just that I’ve noticed, for a warrior, you have a surprising lack of scars. Only one or two clearly visible. I was just making a mental note for later. I want to remember your blemishless skin so that I can appreciate my own artistry later, after it changes forever.”
Evis’ eyes widened as he swallowed hard. He watched Vedon’s eyes turn to his chest once again. Then suddenly, without warning, he was carving into Evis’ shoulder.
Evis’ body arched off of the table, his head slamming back painfully. A prolonged strangled groan struggled its way out of his throat. He clenched his teeth hard and he could hear them grinding in his head.
The knife-work was slow and purposeful. Vedon put thought into every cut, greedily drawing every noise that he could out of his victim. It was music to his ears.
Tears of agony leaked out of Evis’ eyes as he writhed on the table, and his smooth brown skin was marred by the evil touch of his captor’s knife.

*rounded up a few weeks, cause Powerless starts mid August, while Fearless ends end of May, and they're all summer birthdays
(Oldest 7 in semi-random order, little 13 by age)
(And I mean, powers kinda manifest at random times through childhood, so most of the babies haven't manifested any powers yet by the end of the series - let alone both, but I know them even if it won't be relevant till 10y after the epilogue...)
I realize that power-wise Kresint is literally just a waterbender, even her name is a play on 'Cresent Moon'. And I think I subconsciously knew that when creating her. But I also based all characters off family members and assigned powers based on a multilayered criteria of personality, what would fit story wise, and what I thought would be funny, and picked names as anagrams with a letter or two added/removed/changed to help it flow. And I hadn't watched or even thought about Avatar in years at that point. Like yes, thanks to Netflix I've re-watched it several time since then, including with the cousin Kresint is based on, and I even jokingly call her my little waterbender. Kresint is also my 'thousands of hidden blades' knife thrower akin to Mai.
But surprisingly these were not some of my MANY intentional fandom references in this series, this one was completely subconscious.
She got water powers because somehow, even as a teenager, if this cousin has even a quarter of a glass of water, she ends up drenched head to toe, sitting there sputtering in confusion because "I was going to drink that..." but muscle memory insisted that she needed to be drenched. Because she's the girl who will starfish in a kiddy pool fully clothed, simply because she sees water and needs to be soaked. Because she's the kid who's favorite prank is to randomly put a few drops of water down the back of someone's shirt, and then falls over laughing at how funny it is. Because she's the kid who can be having the worst day, but will instantly perk up at the suggestion of swimming, and is always impossible to get out of the water because "I live here now." (until you point out that she can't read if she never leaves the water.) Because she's calm and cool, but a fridged tempest when provoked just like the ocean.
She has healing powers because she's the kid who always has bandaids in her pocket, and knows how to help even if she doesn't have the typical treatment for something. Because she's one of the biggest clutses I've ever met, and yet she rarely actually ends up hurt, and even then no where near as much as she should be. Because she's the one kissing the little kids' 'boo-boo's better before sending them back to play. Because if you're having a bad day, you go to her for a hug, and suddenly EVERYTHING is better.
She has water and healing because they just work together. Because I needed a healer and she made the most sense. Because I needed someone the same yet opposite to counter and compliment my own/Axandrela's fire, and she was the obvious choice. Because I had an idea in my mind for a scene where Xan’s fire and rage are out of control and literally burning her up from the inside, where she needs to be calmed, doused and healed all within seconds, and a hug from this cousin was the only thing I could think of that could calm me that fast.
And Kresint has a million knives, often stolen from other characters, because this is something 110% taken out of reality.
I make alot of intentional fandom references in this series. Because the people many of the characters are based on are major geeks. Because these fandoms have had a significant influence on both my life and storytelling style. And because its easier to adapt other fictional works to exist as such in a story than to create a million additional stories of your own to be merely referenced briefly. But this reference, as perfect and blatant as it is, was not intentional.
Though Vedon - Kressie's brother just older than her - wielding a boomerang was totally intentional. Since he's an aerokinetic it works really well with his powers too. We tried to convince the cousin he's based on to have fans as weapons as well, but apparently they're "too girly"
TLDR: Kresint is essentially a healing trained waterbender with as many knives as Mai. Vedon is an airbender with a boomerang, who thinks fans are 'too girly' of a weapon. Only the boomerang part was intentionally meant as a ATLA reference (the fans were intended as a reference to Kagura from Inuyasha, but he turned them down)
Rann: This kid doesn't care. Its jeans or cargo pants and t-shirt with a pair of sneakers. Sometimes he'll spice things up by adding a sweater, or swapping his runners for hiking boots. If he wants to look nice he'll make sure his shirt is a solid color and throw a leather jacket on. His entire color scheme is dark blues, red, black, and camo.
Xan: I mean she would prefer to be in nothing but a swimsuit for her entire life, but that's not an option. None of her jeans started with rips, all of them have rips now. 80% of her tops are from Comic-con. Gryffindor Letterman tied at her waist in case it gets cold. Has worn through 5 green cargo jackets. Collects leather jackets. Hates shoes, but has worn through multiple pairs of ballet flats, combat boots and knee high boots. Navy, army green and reds. Typically goes without makeup or with just mascara. Either just throws on a cardigan or let's Zai control her wardrobe and makeup if she has to look nice. Has a red trenchcoat and a pair of heelys she wears together 'for the aesthetic'; no one knows what this aesthetic is.
Zai: She's actually just a model. Makeup, particularly eyeliner is poppin and she knows it. Flowy blouses and lightwashed high waisted skinny jeans. Pastels, florals and deep burgandy. Has a pastel pink leather jacket and a pale tan trenchcoat. Won't hesitate to wear 6inch heels even though shes already 5'10". Always looks straight off the runway, even when wearing geeky stuff she bought at Comic-Con.
Mos: This kid cares even less than his older brother. Wears basketball shorts outside in the middle of a snowstorm. Has 8 of the same emerald green t-shirt. Never wears a coat, and has one pair of shoes that he's worn through but refuses to replace. But when he actually tries he looks like a greaser, with dark jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black leather jacket.
Lyne: Mostly hand-me-downs from Zai, and whatever survived Xan. Doesn't really care but prefers bright colors. Cardigans and ponchos. Leggings and babydoll tops. Ballet flats. Looks like she stepped off Disney Channel. Like Xan she prefers function over fashion, but like Zai she realizes that fashion can still be functional. Also has lots of geeky attire from Comic-Cons.
Ved: He just kinda puts on whatever is closest to his bed, and ends up wearing jeans and a t-shirt every day. Unlike his brothers he hasn't quite realised that a leather jacket can up the coolness of an outfit by a thousand percent.
Lorie: This kid's entire wardrobe is from Hot-Topic. Blacks and navy blues. Black jeans or yoga pants. Wore out her Slytherin Letterman and got a new one. When it's not that jacket she steals one of Xan's half dozen leather ones. Combat boots. Learning to do her makeup as expertly as Zai, but tends to do her eyeshadow in darker colors. Dyes her hair black, much to everyones exasperation as it makes her look even paler, which none of them thought possible.
Jed: This kid is a tiny Professor. He has skinny slacks and jeans paired with sweatervests and pullovers. Wears suspenders and patterned socks. All of his t-shirts are solid colored, so even when he's relaxed he still looks put together.
Kressie: Fell in love with Xan's cargo jackets and got one herself to match. Fluffy oversized sweaters for warmth. Leggings are the only pants she wears. Steals Rann's hoodies. Mostly blues, greys and white, aside from her green jacket. Also relies on Zai and Lyne for fancy outfits.
I've joked a few times about how Vedon is just a himbo in the making and that the only reason he isn't a himbo yet is that he's only 13yo even at the end of the series so he's still working on the 'abs of steel' part of himbo. But the brother of mine who he is based on is 20yo now and has started posting workout pics on his Instagram between motivational quotes and 'I love my mama and sisters!' posts, and this is only proving my point.
