i remember a time when "this transmisogynistic piece of legislation will affect cis women, too!" was used as a rhetorically powerful way to show that the sexgender binary is arbitrary: any hard line you try to draw on the basis of physiology to separate the "biologically female" from the "biologically male" will inevitably categorize many cis women as "male", and cis men as "female". this betrays that sex is socially constructed just like gender is, which can be an effective lead-in to the conclusion that the sexgender binary as a whole is to be abolished.

except people latched onto only the (rather obvious) observations transfeminists made about the effect on cis women, rather than those transgressive conclusions about sex as a social construct; now, those conclusions are, if you're being generous, left implied, but more realistically, they are simply cast aside from the conversation, just like trans women ourselves are.
