1. How long have you been Vegan/Vegetarian?
2. What turned you Vegan/Vegetarian?
My mom’s side of the family has a history of digestive issues. At the time I decided I never wanted to get a colonoscopy, I wanted to live 100 years, I wanted to be so healthy I’d never go to the doctor. People who don’t eat meat are healthy, right?
3. What's your favourite meat substitute?
I had a phase where I ate the lunch “meat” salami. I also like seitan, but I don’t eat substitutes much anymore.
4. Be honest, did you enjoy the taste of meat and/or dairy before giving it up?
Chicken, cheese, milk, yes. I never liked steak, and never will :)
5. What's your favourite dairy-free milk?
Almond. I recently bought hemp milk and can’t wait to try it.
6. If you were to try and persuade someone to go Vegan/Vegetarian by showing them just 3 YouTube videos, what would you show them and why?
Is earthlings on youtube? Definitely Gary Yourofsky… and I don’t know, probably something from meet your meat. These videos are very eye opening. Earthlings is really sad, Gary Yourofsky has great arguments and points, and meet your meat exposes the horrors in slaughterhouses. Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while.
7. What's your favourite Vegan/Vegetarian meal and what's the recipe?
It might be my avocado soup. I should definitely post the recipe, because I made it all myself! I love a lot of dishes though.
8. Do you take any vitamin supplements and if so what?
9. Favourite farm animal and why?
Pigs are pretty cute, and I heard they’re smarter than some dogs! I want to own one because he’d be small enough to put in my backyard. Chickens would be too, and I could feed them their eggs back right?
10. Have you ever been to a farm sanctuary?
No, that’s on my to do list…
11. Do you sponsor any animals and if so what species and what organisation are they with?
12. Top 5 favourite type of nuts?
Cashews, pistachios, peanuts..
13. Top 5 favourite vegetables?
Sweet potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, onions. carrots
14. Top 5 favourite types of fruit?
AVOCADOS, tomatoes, bananas, strawberries, pineapple
15. Favourite Vegan/Vegetarian celebrity and why?
I don’t know. Usher because I like some of his music?
16. Are your family also Vegan/Vegetarian? Regardless of the answer, how does this impact you?
No. Mom says she gets enough vegan talk from me and doesn't need any more. I’m pretty sure dad thinks I’m crazy.
17. Put these in order of most important reasons to go Vegan/Vegetarian to least- For the sake of the animals, for the sake of the environment, for the sake of finance and for the sake of your health. Why did you choose this order?
For the sake of the animals, health, environment, finance. Finance is last because it shouldn't matter how much it costs. Quit getting coffee every morning, buy less expensive shampoo, do whatever you have to do to be able to afford vegan food, which isn't that expensive in the first place. For sake of the animals is first because, they’re the ones that are suffering the most from people not being vegan.
18. Chickpeas or lentils?
19. Haricot beans or kidney beans?
Well, I haven’t tried haricot beans before, so I’ll put that on my grocery list.
20. Was your transition to becoming Vegan/Vegetarian gradual or done in one go?
Gradual. You learn more and more every day and are able to be more and more vegan every day. When I look back though, I never really purchased meat or cheese, but I’d buy heat up meals with that in them. I definitely purchased milk on a regular basis and cut that out pretty fast. My transition was to become healthier, so buying no heat up meals and cooking for myself was one of the first things I did. I accidentally have bought vegan junk food with eggs in it in the past.
21. Favourite animal activist and why?
Vegasmo here on tumblr, and Gary Yourofsky. They are great at arguing. I learn new stuff from vegasmo every day.
22. What's your stance on wearing animal derived materials eg. fur, leather and wool?
If I see someone wearing a leather jacket, I see a dead cow draped over them. I think of how horrible the cow’s life was just to be put in a store and purchased by someone. Fur is just as repulsive. If I met someone wearing fur I would get super uncomfortable and I don’t know what I’d do… Wool is a bit harder to spot isn't it? I’m against it and it shouldn't be legal. There’s cotton and silk, come on!
23. What's your stance on animal captivity?
Like in zoos? I've heard bad things. I don’t think wild animals should be confined to such small spaces.
24. What's your opinion on animal testing aka vivisection?
I just looked it up and couldn't read the whole article. Are they given anesthetic? I don’t like it and don’t think it’s necessary…
25. What's the most common question/comment you receive regarding being Vegan/Vegetarian?
“That must be difficult.”
26. Which question frustrates/annoys you the most regarding being Vegan/Vegetarian?
I haven’t gotten questions recently. Normally people like to barge right in with all their opinions and ‘knowledge’ of veganism because they already feel like they’re being attacked. You wouldn't have to justify eating meat if a part of you KNEW IT WAS WRONG.
27. What are your thoughts on the quote- The punishment should fit the crime with regards to animal cruelty?
Like eye for an eye? Well, we’d be going through what, billions of humans a week? And I guess of course the vegans wouldn't be tortured and killed. But anyways, I think everyone should have education. If after the education, people are still like, “but bacon…” then maybe they should be thrown in the slaughterhouse. They could be tortured and scared and feel and see that the other animals are scared as well. Then when they look at bacon they’ll see a scared, tortured, sad, dead animal instead of something that tastes good.
28. Favourite cruelty free toiletries?
I don’t have any yet! ;_;
29. How do you feel about 'humane' farms eg. ones that genuinely allow their animals to roam freely until death?
They’re better. The animal was fed a healthy diet, they got to live in a more natural ecosystem. I read the book, the omnivore’s dilemma and gained a lot of respect for them. I honestly think if there was not a single slaughterhouse, if we didn't exploit animals the way we did, if we did all these humane farms, we wouldn't be so against eating meat. If all animal products came from humane farms, it would be a lot more expensive and we would naturally gravitate towards a plant based diet. Eating meat would be a rare occurrence, milk and cheese wouldn't be in everything… I’m going on a ramble, but I still wouldn't eat meat from those farms. I also wouldn't encourage it. I think the world would be better without slaughterhouses. Every vegan dreams of a world with no animals being killed by humans, right?
30. If you had to persuade someone to become Vegan/Vegetarian in one short paragraph, what would you say?
I’m horrible at arguing and stuff.. I always freeze up and don’t know what to say because I’m afraid of confrontation. Go vegan, because you won’t be causing pain to anyone, it’s great for the environment, and great for your health. I mean there are books written about why to go vegan, you can’t just summarize it in one paragraph!!
