I think I'm going to try going vegetarian on weekends. I've been feeling a lot of generalized moral inadequacy and I've been very worried about the climate collapse. Maybe reducing my meat intake will make me feel better about both of those things.

Kinda interesting how infrequently I see leftists ever make points about westerners doing factory farming. Its a pretty clear case where the "indigenous ways" are objectively morally superior, since they just involve hunting and not torturing animals for their entire lives. At the same time, the most stringent advocates for abstaining from meat and factory farming are non-white cultures (Hindus and Buddhists) Instead I mostly see either hokey claims about how indigenous people are mystically in tune with nature or how Americans need to care less about animals.

Aparently rabbits are pure herbivores who don't do well eating any kind of animal protein, not even the occasional bug, but most animals including those we think of as herbivores need animal protein in some form.
animals are sentient. they feel. they are kept in insanely inhumane conditions, so overweight they cannot stand, packed so close together they cannot move, strung upside down, grinded whilst alive and conscious.
female cows are forcefully inseminated, made to bear children then be inseminated again in a continuous cycle until they eventually pass away of disease and exhaustion. and all the while, used for their milk.
it infuriates me how much veganism seems to come across as a “woke” topic. (let alone how woke has been made to be a negative term.) because this generation of young adults and teens have grown up watching youtube videos purposely spread to put vegans in a bad light, they’re inclined to just shoot down any attempt to promote veganism. the damage that people like the vegan teacher have done to vegan people’s reputations is irreparable.
from my personal standpoint, it’s never really been about the health - it’s about the morality of eating animals. and it’s not as simple as “killing animals is unethical”. if any of these people who are so quick to laugh at veganism actually watched a documentary about the meat industry, i can guarantee you they would think differently.
it’s uncomfortable. it’s horrible. it needs to be said.
tbh i only eat meat rarely now and when i do it’s always underwhelming, i should just go vegetarian keep the cheese and eggs (at least for now) and forget the meat altogether
