#2253 - Holcus lanatus - Yorkshire Fog
AKA tufted grass, meadow soft grass, and common velvet grass. lanatus means 'woolly'.
A common oat-related grass in pasture in Northern Europe, invasive in North America, Chile and Australia. A winter-growing C3 grass that survives droughts and hot summers as seed, which would normally make it quite popular in Australia, if it wasn't for the fact that livestock finds it unpalatable.
The related H. mollis is also naturalised in Australia and New Zealand, and H. setiger is native to the Cape region of Africa, but the rest of the velvetgrasses are European.
