Her friends accompanied her to buy dinner for tonight, making every minute of their day together count, and wandered along the night market and the neon-illuminated streets. Elana purchased a bag of fried chicken for Bean, another package of marinated meat with the appropriate amount of grains, some freshly stir-fried vegetables in garlic oil, and some red-bean filled sesame dough bits as dessert. Some milk tea rounded off the evening, and the five of them returned to Aunty Gu’s restaurant once more, sitting in a corner booth with the bags of food towering on a chair, and chatted until Din arrived. Bean squealed loudly in excitement as he spotted the man, quickly waddling over to the glass front and placing his hands against the see-through material. His ears were as high as they could go, and Bean waved happily at Din with his stubby little arms.
The little fond dip of the helmet was her sign that he had seen them, and Elana had to grin as Din raised his hand just a bit and waved back. He strolled through the door with his usual grace, his helmet turning towards them before he moved over towards them, but she could catch a hint of exhaustion in the set of his shoulders. Bean jumped off the table, scrambling downwards as he toddled at Din in his top speed, and threw his arms around his boot with a loud coo. “Hey, buddy,” Din greeted him and scooped him up. Bean settled against his chest with a happy purr, and looked upwards with big, loving eyes, the glittery blue blush A-Ting put on him shimmering on the child's face. “Glad to see you too.”
