It's not unusual at all! It’s actually a really interesting and thought-provoking question so thank you so much for sending it in 😊 I hope you’ll enjoy the thoughts I have and my apologies for this taking so long to get back to you. As you can see, there was a lot of them, so it took me a while. They’ll also be posted in little groups, because there are so many of them…yeah, yeah, it’s padding the queue and I admit it, but please forgive me. It's quicker and easier this way, allows me not to worry about tumblr word limits, and gets you back sections of a really long ask quicker, which makes me happy, so please forgive me!
Luce, Aria, and Yuni are all heads of the Giglio Nero. While the family doesn’t seem to be as publicly prolific as the Vongola and aren’t as hyped up, we’re given lots in canon for me to say confidently that the Giglio Nero have been around as long as the Vongola have and do have that prestige. Because of what we know from canon, I would say that throughout the years, the Giglio Nero family has gained quite a bit of financial comfort and stability. They’re well-off. Again, I don’t think it’s quite to the level of obscenely rich as the Vongola, but they are rich. Because these ladies are the heads of the Family, with full access to all the money the Family has, by extension they’re all rich as well.
Fon, we know, is a martial artist who once competed in tournaments. And we have zero reason to doubt he didn’t win most of them. In my mind, quite a few of those tournaments probably had cash prizes for the winner as well as just the privilege of being able to call yourself the strongest. Because of this, I do think that in his younger years, Fon accumulated a fair amount of wealth just through competing alone. He was also paid extremely well for the missions the Arcobaleno did together before their curse took effect. By the time he became a baby, he wasn’t extremely rich or anything, but he was set pretty well enough to live a comfortable life for the rest of his life. I think that’s still where I picture him – he’s wealthy enough to live comfortably and support himself and his students, but not so wealthy where he could drip diamonds and high-end brand names and own multiple sports cars kind of wealthy.
Reborn was not just a highly respected hitman prior to becoming an Arcobaleno, where the pay for his jobs would have been insanely good, but it’s shown in the Daily Life arc that he’s well-known in a bunch of different fields as well. The man is a certifiable genius, well-respected and no doubt highly paid in several fields. Once he became an Arcobaleno, I do think he burned through quite a bit of money in trying to find a cure for the curse. However, once he settled into accepting it, he was able to regain all of what he’d spent and more, both through relearning his skills in his new body as a freelance assassin and then through his work as a home tutor. Yes, I think Reborn loves his students. However, I also believe that Reborn got paid to tutor Dino and is getting paid to tutor Tsuna. I firmly, one-hundred percent believe this man is super wealthy, which is a good thing because he is used to the best of everything and does have a taste for the finer things in life (especially when it comes to his weapons, his suit, and his coffee).
Verde is a genius scientist. He sells patents, blueprints, and inventions off to the highest bidder once he’s done with his interest in them. On top of that, he helped invent the box weapons, which became widely used in the Future Arc. You know he got disgustingly rich off just those alone, not even taking into account all the other stuff he has created just because he was interested in an idea and wanted to see if he could make it happen. Verde always has lots of funds for his projects and that’s really where most of his money goes. I wouldn’t call him filthy rich, but he's very comfortably well-off. The only thing that keeps him from being rich, in my mind, is that a lot of his money is tied up in his next inventions and projects.
Colonello was a former COMSUBIN solider. I firmly believe that the Italian military pays its elite squad really well. Colonello made bank during his military days, but I do believe he sent about half of his paycheck home to his family, who weren’t as well-off. Still, he made decent wages and he managed to save quite a bit of it, which would really help him when he became cursed. That money allowed him the time and energy needed to get used to his new body and to forge a life for himself in his new form. However, by the time he was used to his baby form, Colonello had spent most of what he’d saved and did have to rebuild his savings account. I believe he took on freelance jobs before being hired on at Mafia Land and he did get his savings account back fairly quickly. Since his family believed he had died, since he couldn’t exactly show up to them in his new form, you would think that he would no longer send money to them. However, his family receives a monthly check from an anonymous benefactor for as long as Colonello is alive. Because he splits the pay for everything he does fifty-fifty between himself and what he gives to his family, his savings account isn’t as huge as some of the other members of the Arcobaleno, but it’s enough for Colonello to live comfortably and afford to collect all the guns he could want.
Okay, but Mammon’s whole schtick is that they’re greedy, particularly when it comes to money. There’s no doubt in my mind that Mammon has accumulated an absolutely disgusting amount of wealth. Elon Musk, who? Like, Mammon doesn’t have quite the level of overall wealth as the Vongola as a whole, but he’s above the Cavallone Family in terms of overall wealth and as just one individual, that’s really saying something.
Skull, to me, is complicated in this regards. He was a wildly popular, in my mind, stuntman before he was chosen for the Arcobaleno. His shows were always sold out and he made a killing off his shows. He was paid obscenely high rates for the missions him and the other Arcobaleno were sent on before they became cursed. He was an extremely wealthy man before being cursed. However, much like Reborn, Skull spent a lot of money chasing down a cure that could never be found. On top of that, Skull is a spender. He likes shopping. He impulse buys. He likes owning stuff. Because of this, Skull’s monetary status is always bouncing wildly. He can easily make money off his skills and he has no problem taking on jobs for various families to rebuild his savings accounts and he’ll go back to being rich as fuck for a bit…and then he starts spending. He never spends to the point where he’s in poverty or anything, he still always remains comfortably off, but as soon as he gets to that point, it’s an ‘oh fuck’ moment to Skull and he’s back to desperately searching out jobs or missions to get all the money back (mostly so he can buy more stuff and things and live the lavish life he likes to).
Lal Mirch is also a decorated soldier. As mentioned in Colonello’s part, I do believe that most soldier’s are paid a really good wage for their service. Because Lal devoted a lot of her time and energy into her career, and because she didn’t have family who really needed her to send them home funds, she was able to bank a lot of her wages from her COMSUBIN days. She’s just not someone who is very materialistic. She’s someone who prefers to save her money instead of throwing it away on things she doesn’t really need. When she does buy things, she’d rather have the money in the bank to be able to buy quality. But even then, she’s not overspending on anything or putting all of her savings into a big purchase. Lal, to me, is going to be someone who starts feeling shaky if her savings account gets below a certain amount. The amount, at this point in her life? $100,000. Plain out, Lal always has to have that much in her savings account as a just in case. That’s not chump change. She’s not obscenely wealthy, but Lal is well off enough to be able to count that much money as just her rainy-day fund.
The Vendice all, in my head, do get paid wages. For the work they do, they get fairly paid. All of the Mafia families pay into the funds used for this and none of them complain – after all, the Vendice is the last stop for any criminals that would threaten the safety of the Mafia as a whole. However, because the Vendice has little use for said money due to what they actually are, I think they’re all obscenely rich by extension of just never really needing or having much urge to spend the money.
