🖐️ - draw your OC’s hand or hands. What’s distinctive about them? For Vent Rat pls
OC Asks - Drawing Studies
Thank you @lal-ffxiv - Vent the local totally not a raccoon has fun hands-
Here we go! Vent Rat has a bit more animalistic hands, great for climbing and digging, but just enough dexterity to do more delicate machinery work when required.
His fingers are slightly thicker than average, and his fingertips have semipads. Only way to really spot them is by holding his hand and squishing against his fingertips, but there's definitely softer tissue there. Not enough to form proper toe-pad, but enough to be different.
His claws are where things get fun -- he has two tone claws, the root of it being almost bonewhite and set in deep, while the rest of it is darker and smoother. Easier to clip, too, though good luck getting Vent to clip his nails -- he uses those for climbing after all!
Finally, small scarring. Mostly from climbing and crafting, scrapes and bruises, nothing too major about those!
3 What is your OC's view on "lying by ommision"? Is it as bad as outright lying in their view?
5 Does your OC ever tell "white lies" to spare someone's feelings, or to protect them from an upsetting truth? Or are they unsparingly blunt and uncompromisingly honest?
30 If your OC was cursed to only be able to tell the complete truth then what would be the consequences? How long would it take them to get into a fight?
Secrets and Lies || Open
@wanderingdragoon Hope you're ready, this took me.... at least an hour to type out- (Vent, Howler and Jydi are under the cut!)
3. It is as bad, yes. Absolutely. Lying by omission is a great way of getting out of legal troubles and finding loopholes, but it is no less deceitful. Unfortunately, Jason knows all too well that lies by omission run rampant in his family, and he too is guilty of it... The problem here is he tries to be truthful to the people he cares about, and at least he's gotten better about keeping things to himself... to a point. Some fears still run deep.
At least now he's able to tell others it's not a topic he wants, can, or will talk about.
5. Between those two, he is definitely the liar. While he has no trouble being brutally honest about certain things - especially big things that he knows everyone should know about - and he has been getting better about being more upfront about things... he definitely is more of a spare peoples feelings with a fib type of guy. He can carry the hurt, it's fine. So what if he's afraid and angry, he's just a moody bastard, it's fine, it's fine, ignore the twist in your gut little soulcaller, just another day longer-
30. Breakdown. That's your consequence - a complete and utter breakdown. The reason why Jason lies is because he doesn't want to burden anyone with his silly little feelings, there's more important things going on - so if it all just... came out? The regrets of killing certain someone? Fear he isn't good enough to keep his promises? And no, no matter what anyone can say, that was his fault. That was his fault for being what he is and everyone should hate him for it and he doesn't understand why they don't and-
You see that? Yeap. That's what we're getting! It is most likely going to be a screaming match and very, very strained family unit for the longest time.
3. Nope! In fact, lying is not a bad thing at all! Vent counts it as a useful tool in survival - and with how brutal that particular game is, a deception is one of the skills you must learn.
Besides, the fae folk do it all the time, and people hardly call them out on it!
5. Definitely more on the lying side of things. Telling harsh, blunt truths can lead people getting upset, and upset people can lead to violent people. Which is very much not good for his continued good health!
However! If he trusts you not to harm him, and you specifically ask for the brutal truth, he will give it. Just uh. Don't throw anything once you get it, or he might have to revise that trust he had on you.
30. Oh it would be bad... But not for Vent Rat. You see, Vent is privvy to a lot of Beast Tribe secrets, their patrol routes, weaknesses, where they hide their youngs. He also has multitude - several dozen, maybe a hundred - secret tunnels and passageways memorized.
There is also the few rare people who are on the run, who's identities should remain buried that Vent Rat knows, where they are, and what routes they have used, which ways they have escaped, how they hide - of course he knows, he's taught at least one of them how to do it!
Him not being able to lie would mean a lot of the people he cares for will be in danger - and that thought alone is what keeps him doing it!
3. Yes. Lies by omission are actually worse, as it feels extremely manipulative. Congratulations, you're one step above an active liar, what you think you got a moral high ground out of that? No, you're still in that same pit with the same tar on your tongue. You only do that to soothe your own guilt, but it still pools in your stomach.
It will still drown you.
5. Howler hates lying, honestly. It makes them feel guilty and dirty. They also hate detecting feelings of disappointment, if they give their honest opinion on something. So it is a toss-up - is it something harmless, where only Howler suffers? Like Howler liking certain flavors over others? Yes, they'll lie about that. If it's something where they know someone else will be hurt if they aren't telling the truth? They'll tell the truth... and brace for the feelings.
30. Depends, but uh... something tells me Howler telling everyone about the doomed timeline, who taught them, who died and when, and how the world most likely ended with it's last defenders dying mere moments before Howler was sent to our time would not go well at all!
A fight would be the least of their worries at that point!
3. Lies by omission are only slightly better. Slightly. He is constantly omitting the fact of what he actually is, after all! Well, sometimes he has to lie about it - just a normal duskwight here and all that! Sadly his lying skills are abysmal, so lie by omission it is most of the time.
5. Jydirot tries to be someone who spares everyones feelings where he can, but... well let's be real here, Jydirot's what we like to call a dumb of ass. He's blunt, and his ability to lie to someone he cares about is horrid - so even if he tried, he'd fail. So it's best to just be truthful from the get-go on his case.
30. Two words; Ishgardian. Knights. They'll come and hunt him down if reports of Jydirots true nature ever get out. So yes, there most likely would be a fight - and not a small tavernbrawl either.
There is a high chance people will not be walking out of that fight.
side note but if I ever send too many asks please do let me know hfldjksds
but I do like both Vent and Howler a lot (could you tell) so as long as you're cool with it I'll keep bombarding you with asks about them!!
Oh no no no, you're completely fine! Howler's a sweet and soft and I don't get to gush about them much (mainly because there's a whole writing thing I wanna do, but first I gotta get them through MSQ's to a certain point) and Vent's been in small limbo for a bit (well, was - he's now peeking head as potential random person people can meet)
It might take me a bit to get to every ask, but I promise you every single one is appreciated! Here, have the shy beans duo!
🧃: Your oc is being offered a juice box they wanted. What flavor is it? Where will they take it? Do they drink juice often? For vent rat + doodle/sketch of vent rat with juice box /request
Drinks Themed Asks || Open!
Thanks for the ask - and the minirequest, always happy to draw Vent!
Thank you for the juice box! Vent will gladly drink it, as soon as he figures out how the bloody thing works. I'd recon the flavor depends on the giver, but if Vent had a choice?
Cactus. Cactus or Faerie Apples!
As for how often - quite often, actually. It's a good sweet treat to have, easy to make while on the road, and while water is the monarch of hydration there's just a little extra oomph in a juice.
1. What was the first lie your OC ever believed? How did they come to learn the truth? Or have they yet to do so?
7. Are there any secrets held by your OC's culture of origin that are held to be sacred? What are the punishments for revealing these to outsiders?
42. Has your OC ever broken a promise to another person? Did they ever intend to keep this promise? What made them break it?
for Vent Rat!
Secrets and Lies || Open
@shyotic you're a bean for tossing these at my way!
1. Well there is a list of all the silly lies the adults tell their kids - don't swallow seeds or tree grows in your stomach, good children don't get a visit from Santa-gin, what have you. The lie told to Vent Rat - innocent and small lie for an innocent and small Vent, back in the days when his eyes were wider, brighter, when his tail was smooth and his ears didn't perk up at every sound of possible danger - was the circumstances how the Beast Tribes found him, along with other silly stories.
Every tribe had their own story - Amal'jaa were adamant Vent Rat looks like a little sootball is because he accidentally got charred by the cooking fire. Meanwhile Kobolds claimed they found Vent inside a big rock they managed to break open.
He believed all of them until he gained a better understanding of how reproduction and genetics actually work... yet he still prefers their stories to the truth.
7. If we're talking about the true origin... no. Vent knows naught about those people, nor does he care to know.
If we're talking about Beast Tribes however, oh yes. He knows their rituals, hiding places, camps, battle-techniques... Growing among them has taught him quite a bit. More than a bit.
The punishments from revealing all of these wary from death penalty to banishment. Neither option, nor anything between, not to mention the loss of lives and trust is something Vent desires - so he will lie, he will cheat, he will omit and divert. Anything to keep those secrets from the ears of those who would bring the pain.
42. Small promises and not on purpose, yes. Sometimes he was late for things. Sometimes he thought he could handle something, and couldn't. One time he was supposed to not eat a thing and yet he did. Things like that.
However there is only one case so far where he broke a serious promise on purpose, without much remorse.
He promised not to leave ██████ ███ █████. He promised not to disappear from Ul'dah. He promised to be theirs.
But they were to break their promise first, as the scar on his lip can attest.
