though she's uncertain whether leorio celebrates the holiday, she's still careful to drop a present on his doorstep before heading out again. it's a small succulent with budding red flowers, carefully potted in a tiny pot that looks like a watering can. a note reads: "water it a little bit every week. it'll be beautiful when it fully blooms. the leaves taste like the best chocolate you'll ever have-- but be careful, only take a little bit at a time, or else it will die."
Leorio didn’t have a green thumb and had never been particularly skilled at botany (though it should be said that he did try; many herbs and plants had healing properties, after all).
Opening his door to find the potted succulent was certainly a shock. At first, he considered it might be a sort of prank. He wasn’t attuned to cultural trends, and perhaps desert plants on the doormat were the new toilet paper garland or egg coat.
When he noticed the note, his pointless ruminations vanished, and he discarded his briefcase just inside the door to collect the pot and bring it inside before departing.
He smiled as he read the note, setting the succulent on the windowsill above his kitchen sink. The gift was thoughtful and suited to Vera’s personality. She was a kind soul, and Leorio would be careful to heed her instructions. The last thing he wanted to do was kill the plant she had so graciously given him.
Of course, he was now left with the conundrum of reciprocating. He reasoned he had the entire day to consider his options. Seeing as his first impulse was to purchase the Operation game as a tribute to his work, Leorio figured he should probably give a little more thought to his gift. After all, Vera deserved something nice, to show how much she was appreciated.
