“Verity, who is that?” she asked, gesturing slightly in his direction.
“The captain over there?” Verity asked.
“Not the captain. The lieutenant she’s talking to.”
“Not sure. Why? Do you recognize him fRom somewhere?”
Maristella shook her head. “I feel as though I’d remember if I’ve ever met him before.”
“Oh,” Verity raised an eyebrow and tilted her head closer to Maristella, “so you fancy him?”
Verity’s response was a knowing glare.
“I don’t even know him,” Maristella said. “I just think he seems different from the rest of them.”
“First of all, he probably isn’t. But, secondly, we’re going to find out.”
