August Worldbuilders: Day 10

Theryl is filled with legends of Seekers: heroes and champions chosen by the Divines. Seekers have won wars, dethroned tyrants, stopped calamities and founded nation. The protagonists of my books are all Seekers, but there are a few noteworthy ones predating them.

Orphex the Mighty was a great warrior blessed by Yalid, the god of light. In the days before the founding of Elux, the land was plagued by a terrible monstrosity called the Noxeklee. Orphex, along with his good friend Rose Regnus, united the people of the plains to tear the Noxeklee from the sky...

Makia the Wave Walker is a somewhat enigmatic figure. Legends say that she led her people across the see in a great exodus to flee disaster, but no one recalls what that was or where she even came from... But everyone agrees that she was crucial in founding Pou as it is known today.

Dharma of the Burning Brand is said to be the first Seeker of Vashamala, who ended a long and bloody conflict between the scattered tribes of ancient Hol. It was Dharma who founded the Branded: an army dedicated to upholding the laws of warfare that persist to this day.

There are several others, but I think these three really encapsulate the essence of what it means to be a Seeker and their impact on Theryl's history.

Being an indie author is HARD

I'll be completely honest, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing 99% of the time.

Writing a book is already different enough, but then you realise you also have to somehow become your own marketer, promoter, social media manager, editor... and about 10 other things i wasn't prepared for 🥲

I have NO idea what I'm doing when it comes ro promoting my books or getting people to notice them.

Honestly, the best thing i can do is draw my characters and hope people like them. 😂

And writing books themselves isn't exactly easy either. There are days when I stare at my manscript wondering how I'm supposed to finish the next chapter, let alone an entire 6 book series.

But despite all of that...

I'm not giving up!!! 😤

I don't know what I'm doing.

I'm terrible at marketing.

I'm still figuring everything out as I go.

But I'm going to keep writing 💙

So here's to all the indie authors who are figuring it out as they go! We're doing our best! 🤧📚✨️

Well it's official -- The Perfect Host, book five in my queer urban fantasy series The Mia Graves Saga, is now out! I know I say this every time, but I'm super excited for this one to get into reader's hands. It's the conclusion to the "first phase" in this series. Like I intend to write more Mia Graves books (the "second phase" is already mapped out), but if the series ended here I think most people would be satisfied. I think I hit the mark with this one. I posted the full description when the pre-orders went live, but the gist is basically "how hard it is to outrun the demons from your past when they're literal demons." Anyone who's read the ending to Buried Memories, the fourth book, knows where this is going already though. Flowers Isn't Enough

I saw her at the market last week She was buying groceries And I watched her from behind I approached her and asked her name

She was a kind girl, never suspicious I gave her flowers I picked myself I asked where she lived, but she didn’t answer After we talked, a royal carriage picked her up and she left just like that

A month later, flyers were posted around town She was marrying the crown prince I couldn’t believe it, but it was true She was marrying the crown prince

I should’ve never fallen in love with her The crown prince could have me beheaded at any time I should’ve never spoken to her The kingdom will never forgive me I only had two choices And I chose to walk away I only had two choices And I’m not interested in watching her ride around town with the crown prince

I hate her but I know it’s not her fault Now I live in a quiet countryside Staring at the clear sky and dancing grass And Writing in my journal beneath a cool tree
