Suspicious Minds | Sirius & Verity
Date: October 23rd, 1979 Location: The Three Broomsticks Reserved for @veritynott
As always with these times, things were....confused. On the one hand, James and Marlene had taken out a hidden most likely Death Eater, but on the other that meant the Ministry was investigating them and they had to be more careful. Andromeda also seemed worried about Ted, who she hadn’t seen since the night before and it wasn’t like him to just up and disappear. It was hard to celebrate the kind of victory Rookwood’s death should’ve been when everything else was being considered. It was also just luck of the draw that Sirius himself hadn’t been with James when he infiltrated Rookwood’s place, but he would’ve wanted to be there. Unfortunately, they didn’t always get to choose their missions and now James had to be even more careful. Surely the investigation would turn up Rookwood’s bad roots, but then, the Ministry couldn’t necessarily be trusted since who knew how many other Death Eaters were embedded in their midst. Either way, Sirius had decided to treat himself to a night at the Three Broomsticks (though it happened perhaps more often than it should) not accompanied by any of his usual crew but that wasn’t going to stop him from having a good time.
He was pleasantly buzzed on firewhiskey and had started hanging out with a group of wizards that were friendly enough and hadn’t been opposed to his drinking game ideas, which was why he was quickly moving from buzzed to actually drunk. Sirius needed a little air, though, so he’d stepped outside for a smoke. He was leaning back against the building, staring up at the stars, when someone approached and he turned to them with a slight smile. Always nice to greet people with a smile. He was about to say something friendly and vaguely charming when he saw who it was and his smile melted away. Verity...something. Sirius didn’t need to remember her last name to know she was part of the pureblood elite he’d left behind.
“Wouldn’t go in there if I were you.” He nodded towards the brightly lit entrance of the pub, blowing out a stream of smoke. “People are actually having a good time and you wouldn’t know anything about that.” She may have just been passing by, but Sirius was never shy about making digs at people from his former life. They all deserved it anyway.
