The Tales of Ratak Brone: The R.G.S. Marydith
Chapter 1 - The Little Big Pirate Fleet
The ship was rapidly rocking back and forth. A young man with dirty blonde hair and a weathered complexion to him. This was Ratak Brone. He was lying down. His vision too blurred to see much more then silhouettes of people and faded out of consciousness every 15 seconds there about. He could make out the sound of cannons. And a young man, a doctor based of his vest and doctor like wear, was treating a gash in Ratak’s arm. “What’s going on?” Ratak asked in a kind of tired/raspy voice. “You where grazed by shrapnel,” He said double checking the bandage on Ratak’s head,”When you turned to make sure you weren’t bleeding too bad the cannon beside you had been hit by the enemy when a barrel of gunpowder exploded.”
“Well, thank you George,” Ratak said now remembering the Doctor’s name. The Doctor gave a slight m-hm as he continued treating other patients. Ratak started to dragging himself up off the ground. And, with a quite the amount of effort he dragged himself to the deck.
On the deck the ship looked bigger then below. About 125 feet length, and 20 feet width. The ship, being Armed with 3 medium sized turrets, 50 guns on each side and 2 railguns mounted on both stern and a small secondary layer below the helm at the aft of the ship.
The ship was named Royal Guard Ship (R.G.S.) Marydith. This was the second largest ship in the entire fleet and it had stumbled upon a mounting pirate fleet whilst they where scouting where a report of a small pirate fleet had come through. This ‘small fleet’ had recently amounted to a much larger fleet.
Rushing the the captains office towards the back of the ship was a difficult task, as The ship was being bombarded by cannon fire. He burst into the Captain’s cabin to find that the first mate and two senior officers where debating there next move. The captain’s name was Captain John Verdante.
Captain Verdante’s face was that of a gruff, old man, with a white cloud looking beard, And a waxed mustache. His attire was very much like that of a captain. He wore a navy blue long coat, a vest, an old black pin striped dress shirt and a standard neck tie. with very dark pants and thick strapped boots.
“Sir!” Exclaimed Ratak, “What the bloody hell is going on here?!” “Private Ratak we simply do not have time to explain, Out!” Snapped One of the Officers.
“Bartok,” The Captain Said sternly as another shot hit the side of the ship, “Explain the circumstances to Mr... Brone, wasn’t it?”
“Yes sir”
“Right then were where we?” The captain said while Ratak was ushered to the door by the first mate. As he got closer to the door he could hear screaming. Undoubtedly someone had been injured a bit more then Ratak.
“What happened to this ‘small fleet’ we where told about?! When did it become at least 12 Big Rigs and a Dreadnaught?!” Ratak exclaimed madder then anything that it had gotten this out of control in the short amount of time it took the ship to get to the area of rally.
Bartok, With straining his face trying to hide his concern over the situation said in a voice of seemingly blind trust said, “The Captain has everything under control. we radioed for help! They said they’d be here in 15-20 minutes, An-”
Ratak interupted, “15 to 20 minuted?! The primary steam boiler will be out by then! And how long do you thing that balloon can hold?!” Bartok stuttered.
“I thought so,” Ratak said storming out of the room to check on the status of the battle. A smaller ship called the R.G.S. Banshee Had joined the battle and was a bit closer to the action. Pirate being pirates focused on the R.G.S. Marydith, since it was larger and easier to hit no doubt.
As for what happened whilst he was in the cabin he did not know. But there where now only 9 Big Rigs. a heavily damaged dreadnaught, and one of the turrets had been damaged. ZOOM, Ratak could’ve sword someone tried to shoot him so he started moving towards the first turret. Whivh had been incapacitated after the gunner was shot. Ratak hopped in and immediately started shooting at the dreadnaught.
Dreadnaughts having 30 guns on either side of the ship and 2 large turrets made it a large hazard for the ship and it’s crew.
BOOM, The Dreadnaught’s ammo storage unit was hit. Another BOOM, the big rig next to the dreanaught exploded from the scorching heat. Seven big rigs now, seeing as the Banshee shot down a big rig in it’s push forwar- CRASH, the banshee had slammed into another big rig and was bellowing smoke. A boarding party was ready to attack the Big Rig Up close and personal.
Now a second Ship about the same size as the banshee has charged into the scene as Ratak caused one of the big rigs to sink when he shot the chains attaching the balloon to the ship. “Why am I still Private 3rd class?” He asked himself watching the ship fall into oblivion and the balloon float away. As two more ships approached the captain decided to retreat and repair the ship at port.
“And thank god for that too...” Ratak said.
