I came across this crumbling old house in East Orange, Vermont, while I was exploring looking for autumn scenes. The weather was gray and wet, and seemed to fit the mood of this old house. I spent a few minutes looking at the angles and decided I liked this one, with the colorful hillside behind the house and gloomy skies hovering above, while the dirt road runs past from the foreground to background. While I was shooting, I wondered who had last lived here, and why the place had been left to crumble in this way. What had it been like when it was new, when people lived here? These kinds of questions often go through my mind while I'm photographing. Either way, I enjoyed finding this spot, and spending a few minutes here in the rain.
