When you use vocabulary beyond your comprehension, you sound ridiculous. Also, the colloquial connotation of a word is as important as its proper definition. Impressing me with your diction isn't a worthwhile pursuit; the act of trying to do so usually has the opposite effect. That being said, I've been accused of the same. Yesterday, in fact, a young man suggested that I use the word "juxtapose" in casual conversation because, that way, people will think I'm smart. Young man, I am smart. Juxtapose is a word with a specific definition that offers an important contribution of purpose in comparison. I use that word all the time, yes; I also tend to put things into juxtaposition pretty regularly, so as to educate others. THIS is exhausting. Imagine if I talked like THIS, every single time I needed to feel smart... Wait! No! Imagine if I needed to feel smart!
