Ghosting
Henrik didn't like Barbosa very much. They were in the middle of a war, and you could tell. He didn't want any part in this war, which is ironic considering where he was.
"Henrik," William, King of Barbosa, says, pulling his attention.
"Sorry," he stutters out, only to be interrupted by the King, "Veronica..." William's voice goes quiet as his gaze turns to where Henrik's was.
"Sorry, I just thought it looked nice." Henrik says sheepishly, feeling like he's committed a crime.
"She was my fiance."
Henrik looks at William, who sounded hallow as he spoke.
"She was my muse, Veronica Phonix of The Emerald Iles."
"Wait. Aren't you at war with them? What happened?" Henrik asks, sitting up to comfort William.
"Weeks before our wedding, she was killed. So, I dealt with the killer-" William interrupts himself to shoo away Henrik, "I think we are done for today. Leave."
The castle was huge. That's how Henrik got lost. Time wasn't the same here as it was on eath, meaning it felt like hours before he saw someone again.
A boy, or, well man, not much taller than him with brown hair wearing light blue. He seemed rather surprised to see Henrik.
"My name is Gabriel."
"Mine is Henrik." Henrik held his hand out to shake, but Gabriel instead turned around, leading him to a way out.
Once Henrik started to recognize the corridors, the air became think. As if something dead was refusing to die.
"Hide," Gabriel says softly.
Henrik gets chills as he hides behind a pillar. The sound of heals echoes through his ears. It makes him sick. The last time he felt like this, *they* died.
"Who were you talking to?" The new voice was rough, but feminine.
"Myself," Gabriel responds, sounding like a bad lier.
Henrik can't help himself. He doesn't understand what compelled him to look, but he does.
She wore a pink, almost maroon dress covered in white embroidery. Her long brown hair pulled up, showing pearl earrings. She looked a lot like Gabriel, her eyes, maybe they were green once, like his. But now, all that remains are three long slash marks horizontally stretching across her face.
The realization hits him like a truck.
"Veronica," he whispers in horror.
The twins look over in his direction. The lights shone through them as they did.
"I knew you were lying!" Veronica snaps at Gabriel.
Veronica says something else as she walks closer to Henrik, her heals clacking against the floor as she does so. Whatever she says, Henrik doesn't hear it. All he can think of is how she can see him. She, now inches away from him, opens her eyes, and he passes out.
Another ghost stands over him, her head floating above her neck. Her face, it was wrong. Everything but her right eye was blurry, showing nothing but a paralyzing green eye.
Once Henrik opens his eyes again William is standing over him.
"Did you have a nice rest?" William asks, sounding annoyed.
As William talks, Henrik tries to understand what he has witnessed. Maybe he won't tell William. Not yet, at least.
