Can't sleep. Or more accurately don't want to go to bed despite being exhausted. Don't want it to be another day that's gone by and I haven't done ANYTHING, haven't created or made or written ANYTHING.
Found this while digging through my favorites here on Tumblr and figured it'd be a decent exercise before I pass out.
What would completely break your character?
Having no one to look after. He has the attitude and trappings of a loner, but weighs his own worth by what he can do for others. Without others relying on him for SOMETHING, he just kind of... fades away.
What was the best thing in your character's life?
Meeting and becoming close friends with Gideon. (Although technically this was in their past life.) Growing up, he was always seen as the pawn of his parents. It was constantly "Son of him," "Son of her,". Gideon was the first to see him for himself and stick by him.
What was the worst thing in your character's life?
Being made to choose between his queen, (the woman he loved,) and his packmates, those he considered more his family than his own blood relations. (Not that he remembers his actual family anymore... lord, having amnesiac characters with entirely forgotten lives complicates this a bit.)
What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
The taste of a well-made roasted chicken and fresh bread. The way his father used to tap his fingers on the table when his mother spoke. How a sword feels in his hand. How Gideon was always willing to join him on guard duty whenever there was a celebration or party to be had.
Does your character work so that they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren't working?
Verril's hobbies tend to coincide with his work. They aren't mutually exclusive to him. (Although he will lean more heavily on his hobbies after he's... laid off, so to speak.)
What is your character reluctant to tell people?
That would turn into a hell of a list. Verril doesn't like to talk about himself, what he's feeling, his doubts. He'd rather present an air of confidence and authority. If others knew he felt sympathetic despite needing them to do something difficult, they'll waste time trying to talk him 'around'. He'd rather come off as hard and maybe cold than to risk folk not doing what he needs them to do when he needs them to do it.
How does your character feel about sex?
It serves its purpose. And it feels rather nice towards the end. He'll perform it if necessary, but generally doesn't seek it out. (There are reasons for this.)
How many friends does your character have?
Six at the start of the story, though he doesn't think he has them.
How Many friends does your character want?
He would be content with those six.
What would your character make a scene in public about?
Anything that violates or gets in the way of his duty. If he's set to protect something, you don't go making plans to break into or get at that thing. If it's a person, you don't threaten or attempt to attack them. He will respond with violence.
What would your character give their life for?
The safety of those he cares about/rely on him for protection.
What are your character's major flaws?
Very fixed way of seeing things: all falls into black or white. There is no grey area for him. He judges swiftly and harshly. Finds it difficult to forgive mistakes, even his own. Can't recognize the difference between a healthy relationship and an abusive one.
What does your character pretend or try to care about?
Verril can't lie for shit, so he doesn't bother to pretend anything. He wants to care about the happiness and wishes of his fellow packmates, even when their desires come into direct conflict with that of their queen's.
How does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
He always presents himself as steel, sharp and deadly, hard and cold. His is a tender spirit, however, which will occasionally leak through. Most tend to miss it, too distracted by the harsher front he projects.
What is your character afraid of?
Losing those he protects. Failure. Loss of one he cares for.
What is something most people in your setting do that your character thinks is dumb?
Not taking things seriously enough. They don't pay enough attention, don't put enough effort in. If they just took two seconds and TRIED, they wouldn't slip up and leave a mess to clean up afterwards. One that he'd most likely be stuck doing the actual cleaning of.
Where would your character fall on a politeness/rudeness scale?
Preeeeeetty rude. Even if he does respect someone, he doesn't mince his words for their sake. Not nasty or anything. Just super blunt.
