Tie Tuesday! While unrelated to ties, I’ve got so many messages from you about my thoughts on the @michaelkors x @versace buyout, I figured I’d use my most text laden post of the week to kick it from the pulpit. Do I think it’s a bad thing? No, I don’t. So I think it’s an odd thing? Absolutely. It’s clear MK is positioning itself to be an American based LVMH, after its acquisition of Jimmy Choo and now this. Many of you have messaged me and felt you’d see Versace diluted to hell, like MK is. However look at LVMH. None of those brands are directly influenced by Bernard Arnault. That’s what Michael is doing. He’s using it as leverage to say, “look at this prize in my crown” and acquire more brands. Truthfully he’s the last brand I would have thought would try and become a conglomerate but he’s a Long Island native and more power to him. Versace’s DNA is so deeply entrenched in decadence there’s nothing you can do to change that. And speaking as a decade long ex-pat of the brand, believe me, tighter management and better business strategy could only benefit them. Ask anyone who was with me there in the late 90s early 00s - I said then the way to bring profitability up was to reinvigorate Gianni’s designs. 15 years later, #toldyaso @talisman59 @joienyc @jodiebnyc @bryanabes @talentforthethrift @vallenewyork2 @gilles.delaine @danilapianosi @lals__lala @stefanony91 your thoughts? #luxeswap #preach #tietuesday #menswear #versace #versacemichaelkors (at LuxeSwap) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoKsoT-nf6M/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=198wb22jpd42b
