“There’s nothing there! It’s just a hallucination, you’re okay, you’re safe!”
Loqi had always prided himself in being calm and silent. Collected and controlled. He liked being that way. He liked being perceived like that.
That trait had crumbled though… ever since what had happened in Insomnia. He had endured the war, he had endured the fights and losing his limb, he had endured the hunts and darkness, all that… but what had happened in those weeks in Insomnia had left a mark on him. He had already nearly shot Dave… another experience that weighed down on his mind.
But to have such a vivid hallucination?
He would have never imagined.
Having waited for Dave to come back to the little intel hut to ask him about how they would proceed with Kimia, he at first had heard him. His words, his whispers, his laughter. He could ignore that, white knuckles and staring to the chair Dave usually sat on.
But when he first had thought he had seen that bastard on the corner of his eye? That wasn’t as easy to ignore. Neither was the smell. It smelled like gasoline. Like burnt coal. Like burnt flesh.
And then he could see him. Clear as day. He was here. He was 100% here.
Loqi had made for the door in a stumbling attempt to get away from him as fast as possible, eyes wide and a yell stuck in his throat – just when Dave must have returned, because he ran straight against the head hunter.
“He’s there!”
Dave looked as confused as alarmed at first – but looking to where this monster stood beside the desk, smirking, bowing… there was no real reaction. His hands just gripping Loqi’s arms tightly. Something that had the younger man completely lose it.
“Let me go! LET ME GO!”
Loqi tried to pry himself out of Dave’s grip, ignoring his attempt to reason with him, throwing himself back and to the side to get Dave to let go – but he couldn’t manage it. The head hunter had a mean grip, when he wanted to. And Loqi wasn’t entirely there to use his full force. There was growing panic overriding anything else.
Looking over his shoulder, he could still see him. And he was stepping closer. Slowly. Surely. What the hell?! Why did Dave not do anything?!
“DAVE! LET GO!”
