Not for the first time did Alina Starkov doubt her plan for the evening. Instead of going out with friends, instead of getting trashed at some shitty bar, Alina was waiting outside her foster brother’s hotel room door.
The newly-turned 21 year old hadn’t intended to travel across town and proposition her foster mother’s biological son, yet here she was.
She’d rarely seen Aleksander during her time as Baghra’s foster child, most likely due to the frosty relationship between mother and son, yet had admired him. He was a successful man and ridiculously good looking; what was there not to like? The considerable age gap between them, her hopes for Mal, and the issue of him being her foster brother kept her from ever acting on her attraction.
That was until her bestfriend shared that he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend by the end of the summer. Alina had always held out hope, even when Mal began this latest relationship, that he would see her. Truly see her. Yet her bestfriend was soon to be engaged, leaving Alina behind. She resolved to do something to shake up her life, which was what led her to planning this ridiculous move.
Alina gathered her courage and knocked on Aleksander’s suite door, having gotten the room number from a front desk clerk. She knew her excuse of visiting her ‘brother’ would’ve not been believed had she not been wearing a coat. Surely the short, form fitting dress would’ve tipped the clerk off that the visit was not sisterly in the slightest.
Hoping against hope that he wouldn’t laugh in her face- or worse, be disgusted- Alina waited for Aleksander to answer the door.
