Happy sighs heavily, crossing her arms over her chest. “I’m regretting this already,” she half grumbles. “You know how I’m married? Yeah. My, uh, my husband is a member of Scorpion. And I’m kinda’ worried that if Toby finds out, he’s gonna’ kill him.” It’s painfully obvious she’s talking about Walter, but she can’t totally bring herself to say it out loud. “How do I keep him from, y’know. Killing him?”

That hurts. It’s not just that it’s the truth, it’s who it’s coming from. It hurts coming from her. When he was uprooted, when he became someone else, he didn’t expect this. He never expected Happy Quinn stomping her way into his heart thirty odd years after his son had died and making him feel like a father again.

“I get it, kiddo. I do. I never meant to hurt you kids. But unless you want a different agent, I need to be able to work alongside the rest of you.”

Happy keeps her arms crossed over her chest. “You lied,” she says flatly. “You lied to us for years. I trusted you. Do you know how hard that is for me? Do you understand how much it took for me to trust you?” She scoffs, shaking her head. “Maybe I do.”

“Supposedly having special handshakes helps us have a better interpersonal dynamic, or whatever,” she says. “Plus Sly was getting really ridiculous with all the hand sanitizer, and we thought it’d help if we had something cool to coax him into actually coming into contact with other humans. Plus they look cool.” She holds out her hand. “Try again?”
