golden eyes peered at jay from across the room. head tilting to the side in a sign of interest. he’d been quiet for a while now and emmett disliked the feeling. he knew what it was like to be a brother --- funny how he had been the oldest of all his siblings; two younger brothers and a sister. funny how he couldn’t reach out to them like a big brother should. it was funny how immature he acted compared to his status. always the rowdy scottish-irish nature of his --- picking fights, drinking, womanizing. one might not expect that but not everyone knew his past except for edward and rose. jasper picked up on his mood swings but never said anything.

Qrow looked less than amused at his sister. That was always her ‘line’... survival. It was the excuse she always seemed to fall back on. Of course his response held an unintended tone, at least mostly unintended one. He didn’t wish ill on Raven by any means, but from the way he said it... well one might think he did.

In all honesty, he was just tired of this same conversation. It felt like he was just beating his head against a wall trying to get her to understand there was more to life than just ‘surviving’. 

“So you don’t give a damn about who you have to stomp on just to do that?” he sighed, continuing on as his fingers toyed with the glass of whiskey in front of him. In the grand scheme of things, was he really much better? Sure, he didn’t do out of his way to hurt people... but he still did too... more often than he would care to. The solis he took was that at least eh didn’t go out of his way to do like she did.

What? Where was this coming from? This... it wasn’t like Summer at all, at least not the one he’d known. He wasn’t the same either though. Time, it did things. Qrow knew this probably better than most. Honestly, that sentiment was one he’d wrestled with so many times. So many times he should have died... but hadn’t.

Reaching out, he took Summer’s hands in his trying to keep the pain out of his eyes that she thought this way. 

“Sum... don’t... don’t talk like that,” he sighed, not able to maintain contact with those silver orbs he’d missed. “You... you’re the last person that should die in all this.” Guilt laid thick in voice, knowing that if anyone should be on the receiving end of Death’s eternal scythe, it should be him. “This world... it... it needs you...”

Oh yay, exactly what he wanted, a ‘fan’. Keeping his attention to the glass in front of him as he sat at his usual stool at the bar, he shrugged.

“Yeah and?” he replied, taking that glass up to his lips and indulging in a long pull of the bitter, bottom shelf whiskey inside. “Look kid, I don’t do autographs if that’s what you’re looking for.”

Of course Qrow was very likely over estimating his notoriety. Everyone knew ‘of’ him but very few actually knew what he looked like. The fact that he’d been seen once or twice in news coverage... it likely had nothing to do with his actual reputation. But... a little bit of self importance once in awhile didn’t hurt... did it?
