• You know you don't have to keep checking on me, right? I'm fine.
"Oh, I'm sure. You're just so tragic and mysterious, I'm sure standing way over here away from everyone is normal." If it came from anyone else, it might've sounded like an insult. But the teasing note was clear in Sophie's voice, nothing but warmth radiating from the woman as she leaned beside him in this secluded little corner. She had to admit it was a nice vantage point. Though she was known as quite the popular figure in Lumiere... it wasn't like her social battery never ran dry. Getting away from everyone? It was a dream. She wondered if that was the same for Verso, but it wasn't the same energy she picked up tonight.
Then again, Sophie wouldn't pretend to know the inner workings of anyone's mind. Especially someone she'd only recently come to know.
"If it makes you feel better, don't consider this me checking in. Maybe I just needed to be in... more sober company." A smile lifted her lips as she gazed at the partygoers, a celebration of new life and a possible future. Sophie understood why some partied harder than others. But for her, it was too soon still. The feeling of breaking apart and drifting into the wind wasn't a sensation she'd soon forget, and drowning herself in drink wasn't her preferred pastime.
Eyes glanced over at Verso. Some would say she should feel distrust, even hatred, toward him. Maybe there was a part of her that did, deep down. But that wasn't something that chose to rear its head today. Right now? She could only offer understanding, not accusations. If she only got a smile out of him, it'd be win enough.
"Have you tried the cake yet? It's a miracle there's still some left, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
