Artwork Analysis The Shelton with Sunspots, N.Y., 1926
I selected one of georgia o'keeffe's New york works to analyze. The time period was during the 1920s. The artist was trying to convey how a fleeting feeling of how the natural aspects of life and the massive human-built products mix. O’Keeffe' also had a perception of how nature is powerful. She saw the sun taking a bite out of this massive man-made structure , almost as if the natural powers that be can topple even the largest manmade structures, and bne present in a urban setting. The composition is the vertical line composition , which gives height and stability to these structures , with spattered sunspots and of course the sun itself . This composition impacts the meaning by accurately showing the feeling of being encapsulated by the heights of building , when i look at this painting i feel as if i'm a onlooker reaching my eyes to the top of the towers. At the time , these structures were novel and bold. The painting truly honors O’Keeffe's response to the skyscrapers which finally would be impacting her art.
