M M V R .18 Muntele Mic Vertical Race 2018. It's the second year I'm participating. 2017 was an ITT uphill for almost 24km, I did ok and really enjoyed the experience, so I signed up for 2018 too. This year however was a bunch race, 28.9km, with a bit more climbing with the final 1.5km at 15%. We went hard from the start and by the time the gradient started to pick up we were all trimmed down to a small group. As the pace started to pick up on the switchbacks I started to feel the lack of elevation training and I got dropped. The final 6km were just brutal to me, I had nothing left and was pushing against a brick wall, but I managed to pull through until the end. The view from the top, just amazing. 15th place is better than I expected for someone who rides predominantly on flat roads. MMicVR, see you next year!
