One thing that does irritate me about Wings of Fire is that the dragons are SO BIG
If something the size as a Sandwing entered the desert and lived under the sun for a long enough mount of times, it would die, like instantly . More body mass = more heat l
Also reptiles are cold blooded so dragons would NOT exist in the Arctic either, (hence why I draw icewings as more mammal like) esp since Icewings don’t have fur or special oils keeping them insulated, like one the largest real life mammals in the arctic has, Polar bears.
IMO the WOF dragons should be shorter then humans, (by top of head height) or at MOST be a little taller then a human for the height ranges, and without major height differences between dragons because they are in the same genus and are closely related and mixed together genetically.
Like why are they so big… why do they need to be so big… imagine the resource input??? How is poverty not a giant problem here and how are these dragons not driving the extinction of several species on earth
The worldbuilding of Spellbinders genuinely make me so mad, like why is the Grand Chief of the Mimirs, The Changing People, called Chief CHEDDAR?!??! Why is Ruby named Ruby then with Merv having apparently a "Really complicated name they just decided to shorten"? (Brother((gender neutral)) isn't even APART of their society btw, they were raised very disconnected and away from them)
Why don't they look less different from humans, why are they the only race that looks different from humans, and for a kingdom that has fully mastered their environment and has a unique bond with nature and several other technological advances and "unique" culture (That hardly connects and doesn't feel very unique whatsoever, it just feels like a mosposh of things, and they never colonized nor had other cultures join their society, so there's no reason) why are they so similar to humans??? Why do they speak English? Why are their names in English but Mervs isn't? Why is Viator, a white man from OHIO, USA, have a more interesting of a name then Chief CHEDDAR.
Why isn't Merv bumbling around city going "WHAT IS THAT???" why are there so many things Merv (And Viator) recognize when they're interacting with a society that literally has NEVER been on Earth and has never even SEEN a human, other then the Golden Ones who look like humans for some reason (other then their golden hair apparently???)
The Golden Ones apparently didn't arrive as an entire society with their people despite having an entire cityyyy???? WHICH THEY ABANDONED BTW . Their Very Cool and interesting City which I would've LOVED to know where they got their building materials which is PURE IVORY?!??! (which is METAL) from, but for some reason, this society of people want to be more "modern"????? And they live in a typical office skyscraper you would see in new york or something.
LIKE WHHAAATTTT you cant even use the excuse that Sanctum + The GOS were created by the Spellbinders (group of very inexperienced worldbuilders + DND nerds turned gods of creation) because they WERENT they are one of the most ancient societies, probably older then Earth, and they are SO MUCH LIKE EARTH ??!!!
It just feels like Andrew Auseon wasn't ready for the hype of his first book, and then just threw in random things for !!! ADVENTURE !!! ACTION !!! And... Haha Silly Funny Humor That ISNT NEEDED RIGHT NOW
note: I wish that Merv's experience with the Mimirs was more indepth and I wish Merv interacted with more Mimirs other then Ruby :( Merv trying to fit in with their people whilst having their entire life for being called a Criminal and a Thief and a Monster for their ability to change, and having to survive as one for so long because of this, to be put in a utopia where they were supposed to be born in, where Mimirs know who their parents are and are raised by them, Mimirs are supported and safe and happy, (and Mimirs who are rather not fond of Merv because of their own racism towards Mimirs LMAO)
Names are very important for most sorcerer culture groups, and are seen as a symbol for one becoming a "fully-fledged" sorcerer.
Sorcerer names can be anything, though they are typically taken from whatever sorcerer(s) they "worship," or any other figures that they and their group admire. For example, many dark sorcerers like naming themselves Quarastus.
Light sorcerers are the main group that denounces this, but it tends to vary light sorcerer. This is for many reasons, like how the naming is mainly dark-sorcerer created, ideas of individualism, ideas of growth, and more.
This is more common in modern light sorcerers (Yemas De Frenn, Alia Corrigan.) When light sorcerers do partake in naming then they tend to name themselves in a similar fashion to dark sorcerers and other groups, but instead of naming themselves after dark sorcerers they name themselves after light sorcerers like Lar-sennen.
Many sorcerers are rather lax with identity, especially dark sorcerers, and identity change is actually seen as rather magical. So hey, sorcerers say trans rights! Just ignore the curses.
This will probably be redone, as I made ref sheet templates and Iiii am just not happy with this? I cannot tell you why but I am not lolol
Since both new refs will be a little while, I will put more information here! Mira is still in "WIP" so some things may be changed further within the final "product."
(A LOT) MORE SUPER COOL INFORMATION BELOW!
If you have any tips or suggestions or questions or ANYTHING! Please tell me, it helps a lot! :3
Mira isn't exactly an Avian, but is an Avian Monster (placeholder name, another suggestion is Mutation/Mutated but that sounds ableist.) of some kind, I was thinking of "Monster" to be an addon to the initial species of birth, but I don't know how or why to implement that?
^ Maybe the more magic you have/the more unstable it is the more chance your genes can be manipulated/your physical appearance is changed based on your ability? Yes. I think I like that. I'm brainstorming in real time here.
^ It was either this or Mira is a "harpy" which can be a more magical variant of "Avians" that are seen as monstrous. However, I do have it in my notes that magic can impact physical appearance(+health) but maybe it can be both?
Mira's magic forms through eyes, it is very unstable, causing many anomalies. It is more of a information and surveillance (omnipotent?) based ability that physically manifests when active. Mira has a set amount of eyes that can physically manifest, and the amount depends on Mira's health, if xey are injured then xey loose eyes, if they are unmotivated then xey loose eyes as well.
The eyes act as cameras and Mira can be as far away from them as xey want (with minimal repercussions, I'll get on that later,) however, Mira has to be in the room to form them.
The eyes can process information and store it for Mira, she can access the information at any time depending on how hard it is to get the information, if it is too difficult then Mira has to go back to the location of the eye and process it there.
A negative of this is that if Mira processes too much information it can cause a decline in health = decline in eyes and a possible loss of information. Mira also becomes increasingly forgetful depending on the amount of strain.
The closer Mira is to any eyes (the distance can go through walls) then the less unstable the eyes get, if unstable then the eyes can disappear, cause strain on Mira, not process information correctly, etc.
Mira can focus xeir energy on one or more eyes at a closer distance, but this causes other eyes to become unstable or just completely disappear due to the energy strain. However, focusing on eyes allows her to process information at a rapid rate without too much strain, and allows the eyes to process "harder" information like files behind a lock that Mira doesn't know how to unlock/can't unlock. (Energy strain changes on information.)
Mira's own eyes don't count, and the less (magical) eyes xey have, the harder xey find to process information through xeir own due to xey having a dependence on the eyes and this forming a negative connection through xeir magic.
Magic can have multiple forms, such as passive, inactive, active, mixes of a few, etc (may add more modes in the future,) it depends person to person. The most common (and what Mira has,) is the ability to have your magic be all of the three.
The most detectable form of magic is active magic (through common means - but some people may have an ability to detect passive (with ease) and/or inactive magic)
Mira can form xeir magic passively and actively. Within a close range, xey can manifest xeir (magic formed) eyes to process low amounts of information into eye symbolism. This is an anomaly, (which can be identified as such due to it's nature as an outlier of the main ability.)
Mira's magic mostly forms actively, xey cannot permanently turn off xeir active ability, but xey can turn off xeir passive ability (another anomaly, magic is not supposed to form separately like it's two abilities.)
If Mira accidentally reaches outside of the close range of xeir ability, xey may trigger xeir active form of magic and cause xeir ability to manifest physically instead of manifesting through low amounts of energy/passively.
Mira's ability manifests actively though magically-formed eye symbolism and the formation of eye-like markings on xeir wings, or the formation of eyes on xeir wings (depending on the amount of energy outputted.)
When disguised/not forming xeir ability actively, xey cannot do anything in the section above, aka xeir eyes stop gaining information and xey cannot access information. But xeir eyes stay in the spot even when xey aren't forming xeir magic actively, xey just can't access it.
"Chief Cheddar" in which I am Changing His Name after I get my conlang set up and I do enough studying!!!!
(SUPPOSED TO BE "GOLD" CLOTH NOT LEOPARD SKIN BTW . LEOPARDS DO NOT EXIST IN SANCTUM)
for some reason whenever i add clothes the anatomy looks so weird when it's literally perfectly fine under the clothes ouughhh one day ill get it right </333 I def didn't suggest too much of the shape from the clothes though with folds, so that's on me, im not too good at that yet but it's alright, this is mostly just a concept design!!!
anyway
I based him off of a Amazon Bamboo Rat for their golden accents! It seems Mimirs really like pairing duller colors with brighter colors, and it makes sense for the leader of the Changing People to be primarily colored after the Golden Ones since the Mimirs like them so much! Except gold doesnt exist in sanctum and this is just a gold-like material based on a material some plants produce.
Outfit has inspiration from the Ticuna people, (shape and details,) and traditional Mexican clothing (laces and shape as well.)
Though outfits as a whole are a WIP and are prone to change! (I want to add more details)
As a Gift of their Gratitude, The Mimirs were Gifted the Knowledge of Magic! Where they hence became The Changing People.
I just wanted to draw the costume design for Sirens by the Mimirs. I really love the concept of the Mimirs being very artsy and active in plays and displays of art and story!
Plus some mimir children helping out by holding up the performer's wings :)
(realistically they would be holding up both wings with each of their arms but I uh . forgot)
I really love this story so much because the concept of the newly-arrived GOs stumbling around and being very confused of the tropical jungle is very funny to me, even if I don't agree with the GOs gifting the Mimirs the ability to shapeshift. (Though I'm keeping it in the story!)
