dragon age verse.
born and raised in the alienage of val royeaux, fred was ostracised by his human peers for being half-elven and largely ignored by his elven peers for being "too human". fred hid his magic upon discovering that he was a mage, but was eventually found by templars and taken to the white spire. there, he mainly kept to himself, preferring the company of books and spirits. during his third year at the spire, fred was sent to the dungeons for fighting with templars. while awaiting to be judged, fred caught the eye of ryley, a deranged mage under the control of a hunger demon. ryley abducted fred with the intention to turn him into an abomination, knowing no one would care about his disappearance. fred was one of his first victims, but plenty more followed. fred and other captives were force-fed the blood of the hunger demon. the more blood they drank, the hungrier and more violent they became. the other captives often fought among themselves and sometimes fed upon one another. having retained his mind and humanity somehow, fred escaped before riley could complete the ritual.
finding himself changed and only able to use blood magic, fred decided against returning home. he fled to ferelden, eventually settling down in the hinterlands. but his peace was short-lived. the mage-templar war broke out just as he had found work as a fisherman, and soon after, the sky was torn apart.
inquisition: fred finds shelter with the inquisition. he takes up a sword and a shield to hide that he's a blood mage. despite sharing cole's eerie ability to disappear at will, his secret is eventually discovered. the inquisitor can decide to let him be, kick him out of the inquisition, or kill him. if chosen to kill him, fred will make everyone forget about him and disappear from skyhold.
veilguard: fred can be recruited as a companion. a controversial recruit, perhaps, with him being a blood mage and all, but also a very advantageous one. recruited or not, fred is present during the fight against elgar'nan in minrathous.
more: named fen'rin at birth, but only his father calls him this. fred's mother is human. she's rich, noble, and considers her romance with fred's father to be a mistake spurred by a rebellious youth. she calls fred after her father, frederick tremblay, but fred is not recognised as a legitimate child of hers.
