"Come join me!" Linde calls out from her place at the pool. Her voice is filled with such mirth that it's impossible to ignore her, so you gladly take your place beside her, dipping your bare feet into the cool waters.
"You're not going in?" you ask, looking at her out of the corner of your eye you bump her shoulder with your own.
"Well... If I went in, I think I'd enjoy the water far too much and never come back out. It's silly, don't you think?" Linde replies with a smile, one that only widens as you agree with her. After a moment she continues. "Even so, I feel as if even this much is more than enough for me. It's nice to be able to sit and relax every once in a while."
"Mmm, I agree. It's even more relaxing if I get to do it with you," you reply.
Linde gasps in fake surprise. "Oh my, what honesty! Still, I feel the same." In one fluid motion, she lays her head on her shoulder, claiming the space as her own in one fell swoop. "I suppose this much is alright?" she asks, looking at you with a mischievous smile.
"For you, I'll allow most anything," you reply, shifting to make yourself more comfortable by her side.
"Only most? Well, I suppose that's alright for now..." As her sentence drifts off, Linde closes her eyes with a sigh.
Absently, you kick your legs in the water, feeling the cool liquid pass by. It's a rare moment of serenity and you know it won't last for as long as you wish it will. It's the nature of the season, after all, but it still threatens to leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Just when you linger a bit too long on the thought, you feel Linde's fingers tangle around your own, holding you in place with a grip firmer than expected. Perhaps, if she's the person by your side, even the changing of seasons won't be quite so difficult. With such a resolve, it's easy to melt back into your surroundings, easy to enjoy the things you have. It's hard to not be grateful for something like that.
