It’s a retelling of the first Thor movie but from Loki’s perspective and theatrical. Its the tale of a tragic prince with a flare for drama, trapped in the world that raised him, and the truth of where he has come from. It's a broadway-like production (think Hamilton and Beetlejuice) but with some modern/pop numbers as well as original songs.
some of those numbers could be (but are not limited to):
Blue (Billie Eilish) - Loki discovering his Jotun heritage, grapping & coming to terms with it. The lyrics ‘You were born bluer than a butterfly, beautiful and so deprived of oxygen. Colder than your father's eyes, he never learned to sympathise with anyone. I don't blame you. But I can't change you. Don't hate you. But we can't save you You were born reaching for your mother's hands, victim of your father's plans to rule the world. Too afraid to step outside, paranoid and petrified of what you've heard’ are especially Loki-coded. Just IMAGINE this song sung by Loki and then Frigga comes on stage just for these lyrics, staying towards the back of the stage and holding a baby Jotun Loki. THE FEELINGS 😭😭😭
Control (Halsey) - His spiralling descent into self-doubt and anger.
You Should See Me in a Crown (Billie Eilish) - Loki taking the Asgardian throne. This is his villain song.
Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (Set It Off) - this is the Loki and Thor sass-off duet. The SNARK. The DRAMA. It’s savage and full of sibling rivalry. Also the whole vibe of this song is VERY broadway
Loki (The Mechanisms) - but this is a sad cover. Could follow on from Blue.
Bones (Imagine Dragons) - the curtain call song. idk about you but i can see Loki dancing to this song :P
as for visuals:
Frost Giant are puppets that look like if Avatar and War Horse met Del Toro
For songs like Control, Loki & Blue, the lighting could echo his magic - flashes of blue and gold/yellow, blending over a green spotlight (might be slow to realising this but the colour of his magic is a blend of Asgard -gold- and Jotunheim -blue-). SYMBOLISM, BABY!!!
Tom Hiddleston would EAT in this role. No notes.
Loki is a well-loved character and Marvel knows this. It’s not like you don’t know if it’ll do well or not bc as a musical, it’ll appeal to more people. You’ve got marvel fans, Loki stans, Hiddlestoners, musical/threatre lovers, thespians, THE LIST GOES ON
Marvel, this is your chance to branch out. Yes it’ll be an experiment, but it won’t be a risky one.
And who knows? Maybe this'll become the Hamilton of Marvel.
