Ugh, don’t remind me. I have such mixed feelings about that. Like, on the one hand, they could make my OTP canon again, but it’ll fuck up this mess of a plot even more. On the other hand, they could keep it non-canon, which sucks and all, but at least there might be some sense of continuity. As it is… well, allow me to quote an essay I wrote on the subject:

…And that reminds me of all my fears for the sequel in general. Because I know for a fact they’re including a certain CG in the sequel, Kazama will still be working with Heisuke and Chizuru, presumably to rescue Sen. Why would he rescue someone who earlier threatened to banish him and destroy his clan? Even if it’s only for the sake of saving a fellow demon and/or eliminating the furies, nothing could realistically entice him to work so closely with people he still considers enemies. His promise to leave Chizuru alone is extremely tenuous, since there is no longer an alternative proposition to attach him to Sen; only the threat of banishment keeps him in line this time. In fact, if Sen is indisposed and unable to enforce her threat, what exactly is keeping Kazama from taking Chizuru anyway?

Basically, the progression of Heisuke’s route—and Sen’s subplot in particular—relies on an incredibly delicate balance of characterization, which has now been upset because they removed the one factor that ties everything together.

Which means that even if they somehow make it canon again, sure, I’ll be satisfied on a superficial level, but there’ll also be an enormous number of plotholes to contend with. Because of that, believe it or not, I don’t really want KazaSen to be made canon again as of Heisuke’s Shinkai route. What I want is for his route to follow the original plot, which means the damage has already been done and cannot be reversed.

Ingrained habits/forces of habit

He always checks for an escape route, always has a backup plan. It’s the first thing he considers, going anywhere, staying anywhere. Is anyone following him? He can hear any footsteps that match his pace, catch the flickers of potential enemies in the crowd, calculate their motions and distance and intent. And his eyes always flick around every room, looking for the quickest and easiest way out. Who or what can he use as cover this time? How far is it to the nearest reliable safe house? How can he most easily disappear in the meantime? All this and more passes through his mind within an instant, immediate and instinctive, and he lengthens his stride and smiles again. There is no need for anyone else to see how much he knows.

His eyes. Although he has honed his body carefully over the years to minimize his vulnerabilities—first for the purposes of health and discipline, and then out of necessity in combat—there are some things that training cannot improve. He is far from blind, and requires no real correction, but he must admit that the horizon seems to have become somewhat blurrier as he grows older.

He doesn’t think of himself as a paragon of virtue by any means, but he can never put his finger on why. He can’t have too much sake. He can’t even have women anymore, or at least, that’s what he tells himself. But if a vice is just a weakness of character, some sort of flaw that consumes oneself, then he loses himself in his work, getting up early and writing so late into the night that he can’t even remember his name by the time he must sign the latest document. The kind of fulfillment it brings is almost addictive, but fortunately for him, there is always more. It’s just a matter of whether or not his body can hold out long enough to finish it all.

Hi Impracticaldemon, I follow you and regularly like or reblog your posts, so I was compelled by your post to talk to you. My favorite colors, today, are royal blue and gold. I don't have any pets or plushies :(, though I admire your Hakuoki plushie collection. Might I suggest 'Plushie Priestess' as a new title to add to other collection? Royal blue was my very favourite colour for many, many years. I’m not sure when that changed but now I often prefer darker blues, or darker versions of royal blue.  And now you’ve got me thinking:  oh my gosh and holy heck, it’s not that I’m just “sort of changing” - I just getting OLD.  Pretty soon I’ll wake up and decide that even dark blue is a little racy for me.  UGH!  Next thing you know I’ll drive a champagne Toyota, Volvo or midsize North American sedan and complain about how things aren’t the same as they were “n”my day”. (I should hope not, otherwise it means our science program is finally, completely shot.)

Why champagne?  What is it about late middle age that says “my car should be champagne-colored because silver’s too plain but a fake pale gold - now that’s class!  Just… NO.  Anyway, royal blue and gold is a sumptuous combination that (for me) still evokes velvet and royal princes just as it did in my childhood.

Okay, so this is an almost totally gratuitous use of a favourite screenshot - but note that Natsu and Lucy’s outfits are blue and gold here.♥

I admire my plushie collection too.  I am a little concerned with how it got so far out of hand.  There are plushie Shinsengumi (or Oni) on pretty much every surface in this room.  Plus the Amnesia Memories plushies.  Um. You know, “priestess” really works - I make sure to admire them and tell people about them, and in return they condescend to smile upon me (mostly - I’m looking at you Plushie no Fukuchou).

Regardless - thank you for the thank you and I will happily add Plushie Priestess to my unearned but generally undisputed tittles.  Also, I think it’s great that I persuaded you to watch Rurouni Kenshin.  Even though the RK Saito Hajime is just a tiny bit different…
