For all of you, who gave so much for all of us.
Sometimes, the most unlikely encounters change life in unexpected and meaningful ways. For our founder Komal, that encounter was with John, a homeless veteran she met when she was a student at UC Berkeley. He had asked for money to buy food, but something about him intrigued her. Instead, Komal offered to treat him to lunch and asked to hear his story.
As John waited for his benefits to kick in, he had been evicted and was with no money. He had not eaten in three days, and he was very hungry. John, who dedicated his life to and fought for his country, came home and found himself in a new battle - the battle of hunger. And so Komal set out to set things right. That one conversation paved the way for this ambitious venture.
Today, at Feeding Forward, Veterans Day means that we give back to those special people who gave us so much - more than we will ever know. We would like to thank the men and women who missed birthdays, Thanksgivings, and countless moments for all of us. When we recover food, we know that many of our recipients are veterans, and in our hearts, we salute them for their sacrifices and hope each meal we provide brings us closer to our goal to create a hunger free nation.
