Giving back this year, is easier than ever.
For all of you, who gave so much for all of us.
Sometimes, the most unlikely encounters change life in unexpected and meaningful ways. For our founder Komal, that encounter was with John, a homeless veteran she met when she was a student at UC Berkeley. He had asked for money to buy food, but something about him intrigued her. Instead, Komal offered to treat him to lunch and asked to hear his story.
As John waited for his benefits to kick in, he had been evicted and was with no money. He had not eaten in three days, and he was very hungry. John, who dedicated his life to and fought for his country, came home and found himself in a new battle - the battle of hunger. And so Komal set out to set things right. That one conversation paved the way for this ambitious venture.
Today, at Feeding Forward, Veterans Day means that we give back to those special people who gave us so much - more than we will ever know. We would like to thank the men and women who missed birthdays, Thanksgivings, and countless moments for all of us. When we recover food, we know that many of our recipients are veterans, and in our hearts, we salute them for their sacrifices and hope each meal we provide brings us closer to our goal to create a hunger free nation.

We don't remember days, we remember moments
We can write so many words and think about all the Aha moments that we had last night. But there is one thing that blew our minds; we realized that what we stand for matters to people.
When we went to BlackRock that afternoon, somehow we understood that day was going to be different. We stood on the roof top, eight floors up (yes, it was warm), at the San Francisco HQ for BlackRock. While rehearsing we received constant support and positive feedback from Shannon, Kevin(Fast Forward), and Amy Hunter (Director at BlackRock). It felt so good to know that these ten weeks created such a meaningful bond.
BlackRock made us feel that this isn’t a one-time thing, that people at BlackRock care. For them, Feeding Forward means more than hearing a pitch.
When our CEO, Komal Ahmed, delivered her presentation, we felt welcomed and knew that the people in the room believed in our movement.
When the event ended, we were asked if we could recover the food from the Fast Forward event. We were so honored and were thrilled that the day ended with all of us bonding together to give back, by ‘Feeding Forward’.
Staff at St. Vincent De Paul of San Francisco were so happy to see our Food Heroes bring nutritious and healthy food last night. A night that ends by giving back to 160 people, who had food on their plate, was worth everything.
On Sunday, the so-called supermoon was huge and magnificently red. Likewise on Monday, our hearts felt as if they were fuller and larger than ever. This past Monday changed Feeding Forward and all of us.
Every step that we take makes it vividly clear - what we all do matters. We saw why once again yesterday. We invite you to join us in our journey. Together, we can give millions of Americans a seat at the table.
BLAST OFF
When the Apollo program ended, the factories that assembled the Saturn V rockets were shut down. Molds and vehicles were destroyed. The engineers and scientists moved onto other jobs. Â
We lost the ability to go to the moon.
With the end of the Cold War came a desire to fix the earth on solid ground before setting our sights on the stars again.
The atmosphere at the Rocket Space co-working offices on the 12th floor of Bush Street is quiet and peaceful, much like being in the stratosphere. The buzz of activity and meetings no longer persists, and startups are packing away the engines of their entrepreneurial rocket ships into plain boxes. At least their pilots have the satisfaction of knowing that they are closer to the stars than when they started.
The office on 225 Bush Street is located in the Standard Oil building, the tallest building in California in 1922. This was a time when the United States had only recently allowed women to vote, and a time when the field of rocketry was still developing.
Nowadays, oil is no longer a symbol of success, but a reminder of the energy crisis and the limited supply of fossil fuels. San Franciscans don’t want to go to the moon as much as they want to fix problems on the soil, such as homelessness, hunger, and climate change.
Despite its name, Rocket Space focuses on inner space rather than outer space. Notable past inhabitants of their co-working offices include the likes of Spotify and Uber. These days, the fuel that boosts promising startups past the competition is publicity.
For the past few months, Rocket Space has been the home to Feeding Forward's team. During the past few months, our publicity rocketship has taken flight in a way we could not have predicted: Feeding Forward has made it on CNET, Yahoo, Reddit's front page, Al Jazeera, NY Daily News and People.com; business requests and warm wishes have been pouring in from all corners of the world. During our time at Rocket Space, we have fed over 25,000 meals to shelters and other in need recipients in the Bay Area, and for that, we are all so grateful.
Alleviating domestic problems such as food waste and food insecurity can seem like rocket science sometimes, but it becomes a lot easier through altruism and co-operation (get it?!). It may have gotten harder to get to the moon, but it's become easier than ever to feed people in the 21st century, especially with technology, publicity, and a little dash of charity.
To Rocket Space, Neospeech, and our other incredibly generous partners, we offer our most sincere thanks.
And with that, Feeding Forward is ready to blast off!
We can't end hunger without YOU. We need your support! Reblog, tweet, post, spread the word about Feeding Forward!
1 in 6 Americans don't know where their next meal is coming from.
Feeding Forward strives to make it none in 6. We developed an app that bridges the gap between the recipient and the donor. When a donation is posted through the app, our technology will dispatch a volunteer who will then pick the donation up and deliver it to a nearby soup kitchen, shelter, or food bank.
