“Assessment is such a difficult area to get right. It’s extremely complex.” — Phill Bevan, VET Advisor
Assessment continues to be one of the most challenging parts of vocational education and training — and for good reason.
It’s not just about having assessment tools. Quality assessment depends on multiple factors working together: ✔ Qualified trainers and assessors ✔ Assessment tools aligned to training products ✔ Strong RTO validation practices ✔ Clear marking guides and benchmarks ✔ Assessment practices that follow the principles of assessment
And then there’s RPL, which adds another layer of complexity.
At its core, assessment is about making an important decision: Is the learner genuinely competent?
That decision impacts learners, employers, industry confidence and the reputation of the VET sector itself.
Interesting discussion from #VETtalks Episode 10 featuring Phill Bevan on why assessment quality remains such a critical and complex area for RTOs.
