Brain: Ok, time to work on that intercultural communication assignment
Me: On it!...Ok, here it is
Brain: Uh, this is a Venom/Female!Eddie fanfic
Me: Yeah, but they're both from *different cultures*. It counts.
Brain: ...shit, you're right
Changes: WIP of Chp. 4 “Going Out”
“Why don’t we ever go out?”
The question came out of the blue one night while Evie perched on their couch, focusing on a particular college assignment with Venom draped over her shoulder like a snake. The tv played softly in the background. Maybe it was the commercial for a couple’s night on the town, maybe it was the article Evie had written earlier about new city developments, maybe it was none of them. But whatever the cause, it made Venom realize something.
“Your species appears to roam away from home a lot, but not you,” he observed, turning his face towards her quizzically.
“Ven, we go out all the time,” she replied without taking her gaze from the textbook. “The gym, coffee shops, all those interviews, and not to mention whenever you need to eat—“
“Those don’t count,” he shifted to sit on her book like a cat seeking attention, “I mean going sightseeing, see a movie, some other place where humans gather. We go out, but we never go out together. Why?”
Evie pushed him off, but he just wrapped around her arm instead. “Well, I’m pretty busy you know,” she huffed, annoyed by the distraction. “School, work, etc. Besides, it’s nice at home. I just…don’t really ever think about leaving unless I have to.”
Venom had noticed his host’s tendency to stay in her abode. Most days she wouldn’t even get dressed beyond swapping her pajama shorts for leggings. Some species on other worlds spent their entire existence living in caves and the like, but humans weren’t like that. While he didn’t know everything about humans, he knew it wasn’t normal, at least for her. “You used to get out of your apartment. You used to love the city…” he quickly riffled through her thoughts, trying to find the causation,“…when you lived with Anne.”
