Don't have a lot of back story, Moon did something bad so he is a prisoner. Lunar called dibs on Sun as his servant to keep him mostly safe (the other three wouldn't be kind). I'm not sure if Sun was passive or reluctantly active in whatever Moon did, but I guess he was remorseful enough that Lunar decided to protect him.
The biggest part I know is that KC and Lunar poses as Moon and Sun respectively in regards to anything multidimensional.
